OUR MISSION AND VISION

WeCount! is a membership-based workers’ center in South Dade, Florida. Since 2006, WeCount! has been working to build the power and leadership of low-wage workers and immigrant families through education, support, and collective action. Our members are day laborers, domestic workers, agricultural workers, and other immigrant workers. Our vision is to build a grassroots worker-led movement and win fair jobs and papers for all.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

WeCount!’s Agricultural Organizer will be responsible for carrying out outreach, education, leadership development, and base-building activities with plant nursery workers in South Dade. This position will include conducting worker outreach; building relationships with workers, responsible employers, grower associations, and other community stakeholders; setting up one-on-ones with workers; facilitating worker leadership development; creating a Plant Nursery Committee of worker leaders in the industry; organizing meetings, workshops, and trainings that engage, educate, and encourage plant nursery workers to take collective action; recording and hosting educational programming on WeCount!’s community radio station, Radio Poder 97.7 FM; and supporting the launch of “Sembrando Justicia,” a worker-driven campaign to increase labor standards and protections in South Florida’s plant nursery industry. The Agricultural Organizer will also support our general membership program, Homestead office operations, and our ongoing COVID-19 relief and recovery efforts.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Commitment to advancing WeCount!’s mission and vision.
  • Dedication to building the power, leadership, and self-determination of low-wage workers.
  • Previous professional or volunteer experience with community, worker center, or labor union organizing.
  •  Access to a vehicle and willingness to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends. 
  • Effective communication, organization, and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to work in a rigorous, mission-oriented, and collaborative work environment.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish). Indigenous languages a plus.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary of $45,000, plus health care benefits. Given workers’ schedules and availability, this position will require non-traditional hours, including conducting outreach in early mornings or evenings and facilitating meetings in the evenings and/or weekends. When possible, we will provide flexible work schedules to account for these non-traditional hours. We also provide 3 weeks paid vacation and generous paid holidays and sick leave. As a workers’ center with a commitment to workplace justice and fair employment practices, we are a just cause employer, not at-will. This position reports directly to the Executive Director.
