Communications and Operations Associate (Remote) for Nepal Education Org

Sunsar Maya is a non-profit organization providing services in Nepal. Our mission is to build pathways out of poverty by improving the livelihoods of vulnerable children and women through holistic, community-based services. (More info on the org at the bottom of the post.)

As a small non-profit, the communications and operations associate will play a key role in our organization, creating and managing social media content and communications calendars; designing compelling visuals through photos, videos, and other graphics; updating the website; managing the donor database; and other administrative tasks. The associate will participate in development and communications strategy sessions with the executive and development directors to help move the organization forward. The position is part-time at 30 hours/month with the opportunity for growth as the organization expands.

Responsibilities:

  • Create social media strategy, produce content (including videos), and identify areas for growth through reporting and analysis
  • Design newsletters (Mailchimp), reports, and other literature for donors and funders
  • Maintain online systems, including donor database, website, and email marketing
  • Assist in coordinating online and live campaigns and events
  • Other administrative tasks

Qualifications:

  • A solid understanding of, and experience in, social media strategy
  • Creativity and excellent writing skills
  • Ability to create compelling visuals through photos, videos, and graphics
  • Comfortable with technology, including content management systems, email marketing tools, website builders, etc.
  • Self motivated and enthusiastic, can work independently
  • Experience with international development and aid preferred, but not required

Salary, Hours, and Information:

Flexible 30 hours/month. Salary is $18-20/hour contract position. The associate is a remote position but can work and meet during pacific coast hours.

Sunsar Maya operates multi-function community centers in Nepal that include: an after-school tutoring and enrichment program for orphaned and endangered children; women’s literacy classes that build reading, math, and life skills; and a teacher training program that supports educators in rural villages. These services make up a multi-pronged and sustainable approach to addressing both the short- and long-term needs of a population that suffers from severe social and economic barriers. In addition, Sunsar Maya administers emergency relief efforts in Nepal, such as following the 2015 earthquakes and during the current Covid-19 crisis.
