Description of the Position:

You will participate as a member of the senior management team, reporting to the Executive Vice Chancellor/Chief Operating Officer. You will represent the organization as appropriate, or upon request by the COO or the Board, with trustees, banks and investment advisors.  We are looking for a confident, inclusive manager recognized for building and nurturing long-tenured, collegial, and resourceful teams. The CFO will have unquestioned integrity and a genuine commitment to JTS’ mission and values, and will contribute to a positive and vibrant work environment.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

·        Lead and direct all aspects of the financial planning process with the goal of improving overall financial performance

·        Oversee the management and coordination of all fiscal reporting activities for the Seminary including: organizational revenue/expense and balance sheet reports

·        Develop and maintain yearly plans, annual budgets, periodic forecasts and such other timely reports as may be requested by the trustees or the Executive Vice Chancellor/COO

·        Oversee the production of monthly reports including reconciliation, as well as internal unaudited financial statements and cash flow projections for use by Executive management, as well as Budget Committee and Trustees

·        Hold reviews of budget vs. actual with department heads and senior management.

·        Report on financial results and key metrics against appropriate base comparison (prior year budget, forecast, in depth analysis to prepare and present projections and deviation from plan)

·        Provide ad hoc analysis for new initiatives and special projects

·        Maintain a comprehensive listing of the various endowment funds, insuring appropriate allocations, supervision of the records and issuance of regular reports on the value of said funds

·        Make presentations to the Board of Trustees as appropriate regarding financial matters

·        Develop and maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets of the Seminary and oversee the coordination and activities of independent auditors ensuring the preparation of the annual financial statements is in accordance with U.S.GAAP and federal, state, and other required supplementary schedules and information and insure its issuance in a timely fashion

·        Staff the Trustee Committees of Audit, Budget/Finance and Investment, which service shall include such duties as are appropriate and reasonable

·        Participate in and direct the internal Budget Review Committee

·        Provide a “customer service” approach within the entire financial/administrative organization, clearly demonstrating that Finance is a support operation

·        You will also have direct responsibility for the oversight of the departments of Finance, Accounting, Budget, Bursar, Facilities (including maintenance, security, mail, new media (AV), and purchasing) Institutional Research, and Registrar

·        Mentor and develop the team; manage work allocation, training, problem resolution, performance evaluation; and ensure an inclusive, respectful and effective team dynamic


Minimum Requirements:

·        10 years of increasingly responsible financial management responsibilities

·        Understand higher education and shared governance

·        Experience in managing Accounting, Budgeting, Bursar, Facilities, Institutional Research and Registrar

·        Strong organizational skills

·        An effective communicator and influencer at all levels in the Seminary, with strong oral and written skills

·        Must be a self-starter with the ability to prioritize tasks

·        Outstanding computer skills and accounting knowledge

·        Education credentials include an undergraduate degree and, ideally, a CPA or MBA

·        Team builder and team player who enjoys working in partnership and in a collegial manner with the entire senior management team
