Mission and Background:

Korean Resource Center’s mission is empowering low-income, immigrants, Asian Americans and Pacific

Islanders, and people of color communities in Southern California.

KRC was founded in 1983 to empower Korean American low-income immigrant and people of color communities.

In the late 1990’s KRC deepened its work on local issues in order to forge a Korean American progressive agenda.  KRC is committed to advocating for racial, economic and social justice for immigrant and people of color communities. 

KRC’s guiding principles are: “Live Right, Know your Roots, Live in Strength, and Live in Harmony.”

We have two offices in Los Angeles and one in Fullerton.

POSITION:

KRC is looking for an Organizing Director who is committed to creating long-term change in immigrant communities. The successful candidate is dedicated, self-motivated, and creative. S/he is experienced in

building relationships with individuals and organizations, working with Korean American immigrants and organizing within communities, moving actions and campaigns forward, and collaborating effectively as part of a team. This position is based in Los Angeles and will work with immigrant communities in both Los Angeles and Orange Counties.

Team Management and Leadership

  • Lead the design and management of KRC’s overall civic engagement and organizing strategies
  • Effectively build a team of organizers invested in building power and establishing deep relationships with grassroots leaders and community members.
  • Manage organizing staff and develop their leadership. Ensure that the team has clarity
  • at all levels by modeling, building, and supporting effective communication, coordination and a performance oriented culture.
  • Be a public leader by managing a portfolio of significant donors and funders, in partnership with the Executive Director.

Organizing, Education & Campaign Coordination

  • Develop and implement a work plan for a multi-pronged education, advocacy and organizing
  • projects to advance policies that improve the lives of Korean, AAPI communities and other low-income immigrants of color.  
  • Lead strategic direction of issue campaigns with a focus on building power, by aligning campaigns to civic engagement and elections, narrative and communications, and growing KRC’s base.     
  • Use deep power analysis and issue-cutting skills to help organizers and managers create and execute effective campaign strategies by building a culture of campaigning that captivates and focuses people.
  •  Lead process to develop long-term agendas and power analysis for various campaign areas (Citizenship4All,
  • Housing4ALL, Health4ALL, Education4ALL, Sanctuary4ALL) with staff, grassroots leaders and coalitions.     
  • Plan and lead direct actions with staff, leaders and coalitions.
  • Help organize press conferences, actions, and other events to support local, statewide and national issue campaigns.
  • Work closely with KRC Communications Team to expand digital organizing efforts.
  • Produce relevant educational materials including reports, policy analyses, and fact sheets.


SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Commitment and passion for racial, gender and economic justice and their intersections, both inside and outside organizations.
  • Knowledge of immigration issues and policies relevant to Korean American, AAPI, immigrant and low income communities of color.
  •  A minimum of 5 years’ or comparative experience working with community, labor, or electoral organizations with success in developing and winning campaigns.
  •  Similar level of experience supervising staff in an organizing setting, with a strong track record of building teams and developing staff leadership.
  • Familiarity with California’s political and organizing landscape.    
  • Familiarity with California’s immigrant rights organizing landscape and Korean American populations and communities.
  • Demonstrated competence in creative and problem-solving skills.
  • Committed to team building in a wellness-oriented framework in organizing and movement building.
  • Well versed in current immigrant policies and issues. 
  • Extensive knowledge in Voter Database and Software.
  • Experience in predictive models and national voter file databases.  
  • Extensive history with web-based constituent relationship management and CiviCRM in particular. 
  • Strong project and people management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, relational and organizational communication skills.
  • Superior public speaking, writing, and analytical skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel (when it is safe to do so).
  • Bilingual/bicultural English/Korean is a must.
  • Experience building strong relationships with diverse allies and constituents.
