Wallingford Community Senior Center (WCSC)’s Van Driver/Office Assistant coordinates, schedules and drives WCSC’s paratransit van, transporting seniors to and from WCSC programs. When not driving the van, the Van Driver/Office Assistant provides support to program and administrative operations.

Key Responsibilities

Van Operation

  • Operate WCSC’s paratransit van in various traffic and environmental conditions, observing all safety precautions.
  • Transport van riders to and from WCSC programs and services in a respectful, caring, and safe fashion.
  • Greet, assist and secure passengers; aid as needed, such as opening doors, operating wheelchair lift, escorting to and from buildings.
  • Assure passenger safety and respond to passenger illness or other medical problems as needed.
  • Provide rides with reasonable timeliness, as pre-arranged and scheduled.
  • Communicate with scheduled riders by telephone to make, adjust, and confirm ride arrangements and schedule. Coordinate and communicate with WCSC program staff to keep them informed of van arrangements. 
  • Maintain van records, reports, and logs (riders, mileage, etc.) and submit monthly reports to King County Metro.
  • Refuel the vehicle as needed, and maintain its cleanliness.
  • Perform pre-and post-inspections on van; report any mechanical service needs, note damage, or problems.

Office Assistance

At the direction of the Operations Manager, assists with various aspects of daily operations of WCSC, including:

  • Engage with the public in a courteous and friendly manner
  • Answer phones and respond to correspondence
  • Greet visitors and answer inquiries
  • Handle daily cash transactions
  • Convey communications to staff in a timely and professional manner
  • Other tasks as assigned by Operations Manager

Other:

  • Participate in training as required.
  • Maintain positive communications and relationships with other WCSC staff, volunteers, van riders, King County Metro Access staff who provide this van program, and the general public.
  • Provide other clerical support as directed.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be at least 25 years of age, for insurance purposes.
  • Minimum of three years driving experience required; minimum of one-year professional driving experience preferred.
  • Clear communication (verbal, writing, listening) skills.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new skills.
  • Experience with cash accounting/taking payments.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license with no moving violations in the past three years required.
  • Physical ability to perform job, including operating wheelchair lift, ability to lift 25 pounds, and be on his/her feet for at least an hour at a time.
  • Ability to read maps and use a GPS effectively.
  • Must successfully complete all defensive driving and passenger training, as required. 
  • Ability to maintain citation and accident free driving record.
  • Undergo annual background check, with acceptable results.
  • Quick learner, service mentality, and flexibility to adapt in a busy environment.
  • Experience working with frail and disabled people preferred.
  • Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and be able to show proof of vaccination and follow all government requirements, including wearing a mask.

Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30 – 4:30pm. 40 hours per week.

Compensation: $18-20/hour

·  Employee will be eligible for sick leave and vacation time.
