HEAF is a supplemental education and youth development organization that works to help motivated students develop the intellectual curiosity, academic ability, social values and personal resiliency they need to ensure success in school and career.  HEAF identifies students in middle school and supports them to and through four-year colleges, through a variety of after-school, Saturday and summer educational and youth development programs.

Summer Quest’s mission is to ignite intellectual curiosity, and to cultivate academic development through a variety of inquiry and project-based enrichment classes throughout the summer.  Our goal is to offer rising 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th graders an advantage for the upcoming school year.

Program Summary:

·Orientation: June 21st and 22nd

·Program Dates: July 8th – August 2nd , 2019

·Hours: Monday - Thursday , 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM & Friday, August 2nd , 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM

·Location: 80 Willoughby Street, Brooklyn New York, 11201

Summary:

In this science class, named “Doctor Doctor”, students will build general competency in health and biology, with a focus on the cardiovascular system and its functions. Students will learn about the brain and the processes by which they are able to live, learn and process memories. Students will get the opportunity to dissect an animal brain. The ideal candidate will be able to develop and implement an engaging curriculum.  They must be able to utilize progressive coaching and discussion instruction models to engage students. Experience and comfort with dissection may be required. The ability to create a safe and rich and fun learning environment is essential.

Job Requirements:

·         B.S. in science or related field (M.A. and MPH students encouraged to apply)

·         Minimum of 2 years experience working with youth

·         Experience designing curriculum preferred

·         Excellent interpersonal skills

·         Strong classroom management skills

·         Willingness to promote HEAF educational and youth development philosophy

·         Ability to work collaboratively with the HEAF staff

Compensation:

$42/hour classroom instruction

$15/hour for meetings and administrative duties
