Teaching Assistant (Lower Elementary or Middle School)

The Mission Preparatory School, a TK-8, college-preparatory, tuition-free, public charter school in San Francisco’s Mission District, is accepting applications for Teaching Assistant positions for the 2021-22 school year.

 Responsibilities:

• Uphold the mission and vision of Mission Prep
• Provide small-group and individual instruction under the direction and supervision of classroom teachers
• Supervise and support students during independent work and non-instructional times (snack, lunch, free play, etc.)
• Assist teachers and administrators with assessments, classroom technology, and preparing materials
• Maintain student performance data in school tracking systems
• Analyze and use data to inform and adjust instruction
• Teach and enforce school-wide systems, routines, and expectations
• Participate actively in professional development and professional learning communities
• Use feedback and observations to improve performance
• Complete administrative and operational duties in accordance with school needs and deadlines
• Provide coverage for teachers and teaching assistants as needed
• Participate in school-wide events, including community meetings, field trips, and other activities

Qualifications:

Required

• Bachelor’s degree
• Experience working with children in a school setting
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Strong organizational capacity
• Experience analyzing and using data to inform practice
• Openness to feedback and commitment to developing continually as a professional educator

Preferred

• Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Time Commitment:

This position is 1.0 FTE (full-time exempt) and follows a 11-month work year with significant student-free days for professional learning and collaboration with colleagues and interaction with families. All instructional staff will report in late July/early August, 2021 (exact calendar TBD).

Common Teacher Hours: All teachers and teaching assistants are expected to maintain hours of 7:40 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. M, Tu, Th, Fri and 7:40 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. on Wednesdays for Professional Development, with occasional needs during evenings and weekends (e.g., Parent-Teacher Conferences, Community Events).
