Senior Director of Finance and Administration

Reports to: Executive Director 

Direct Reports:  Senior Manager of Talent and Administration, Finance Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Director of Finance and Administration will be responsible for leading INCLUDEnyc’s fiscal strategy, overseeing controls, ensuring compliance and leading key administrative functions for the organization. They will be responsible for leading INCLUDEnyc’s fiscal strategy and guiding the organization through a period of unprecedented growth by preparing financial analyses, identifying and implementing updated processes, managing risk and strategic planning.  Candidates will have a strong background in accounting, with significant nonprofit accounting experience especially in government grants management as well as expertise in core administrative functions such as information technology, facilities, and human resources.  In FY2021, INCLUDEnyc’s budget is $5.1 million. The Senior Director of Finance/Controller will be committed to producing high quality work effectively and efficiently and working collaboratively with the organization’s senior management team and the board of directors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Fiscal Strategy:

  • Advise on major decisions and facilitate leadership discussions on fiscal strategy and growth
  • Prepare and present budgets, financial projections, and analyses to executive leadership and board 
  • Proactively identify and assess risks to the organization’s success, and propose mitigation strategies
  • Track important key performance indicators (KPI) and analyze trends
  • Regularly conduct cost benefit analysis and external benchmarking to identify cost efficiency opportunities
  • Collaboratively develop and utilize forward-facing, predictive models and activity based financial analyses to provide insight into the organization’s operations and business plans
  • Oversee the finance team and set the tone for productive and goal-oriented collaboration across the organization

Accounting Leadership:

  • Provide supportive and effective supervision to the Finance Manager 
  • Manage monthly & annual closing processes meeting all deadlines
  • Lead the annual audit, government audits, the 990 & all government filings
  • Assure the effectiveness of internal controls
  • Oversee a/p and a/r and payroll administration by the Finance Manager
  • Lead the annual budgeting process
  • Manage government grants; prepare reports and vouchers 
  • Oversee foundation and corporate grants administration in collaboration with the development and program departments, and provide financial reports on grants
  • Generate monthly, quarterly and annual reports, as needed to monitor, evaluate and optimize cash-flow and liquidity
  • Utilize technology to optimize all reporting and analytic functions
  • Manage banking relationships

Administration

  • Supervise talent recruitment and retention and office administration 
  • Utilize technology to optimize all reporting and analytic functions
  • Further develop human resources and administration by enhancing professional development, compensation and benefits, performance evaluation, training, and recruiting
  • Work closely and transparently with all external partners including third-party vendors and consultants
  • Oversee administrative functions as well as facilities to ensure efficient and consistent operations as the organization scales
  • Oversee the talent and administration team and set the tone for productive and goal-oriented collaboration across the organization

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

Professional Expertise:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, in field of accounting, finance or related concentration; Master’s degree is preferred
  • 10+ years of professional experience including a track record of success in accounting, risk management and financial management
  • Experience managing critical administrative functions including information technology, human resource operations, and facilities management
  • Significant experience with nonprofit program, organizational budgeting, and managing government grants 
  • Ability to comprehend both the “big picture” and the minutiae of contracts, regulations, and financial information 
  • Excellent verbal and written business communication skills, notably the ability to effectively present financial information to people with all levels of accounting knowledge 
  • Knowledge of SAGE MIP or comparable nonprofit accounting software, and skilled in the use of technology to quantify and illustrate financial reports, comparisons, impacts, and projections  
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Apps for Business (Gmail, Docs/Drive/calendar); working knowledge of Salesforce preferred
