Brighter Boston guides teenagers to discover meaningful work and personal success through life changing professional internships in the event production industry. We provide skills training and paid internships to Boston Public Schools youth in: Lighting, audio, video, and set construction for live events.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Program Manager is responsible for coordinating and maintaining the high quality of Brighter Boston programs throughout the year. Applicants should have technical theater experience, experience working with youth, be highly organized and customer service oriented. They are respectful of young people, being unfazed by teenagers’ unique challenges and playing to their strengths. They believe in empowering young people by creating opportunities for youth to learn by doing. The Program Manager should love the technical theatre/ event production industry and understand the unique needs of employers in the industry. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Interns and families/guardians

  • In collaboration with the Programs Director assist with implementation of summer skills training intensive
  • Meet with each intern to determine their particular schedule with family, school and transportation, as well as their strengths, goals, and areas for growth. Match them with an employer that aligns with those needs 
  • Schedule and lead onboarding meeting of interns at initial job placement including orientation, signing of internship contract and expectations
  • Coordinate internship placement schedules for interns 
  • Maintain positive two way communication with interns including daily text messages and weekly reminders 
  • Prepare interns to succeed at work by helping with time management, email etiquette, and attire expectations
  • Administer program surveys and interviews to all interns and share survey results with interns and their families/guardians

Employers

  • Maintain positive two way relationships with employers through regular communication and site visits
  • Coordinate internship placement schedules 
  • Confirm and share weekly timesheets with employers
  • Administer end of placement surveys to all employers

Outreach

  • Participate in visits to schools and classrooms to recruit interns and provide application materials 
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director and the Programs Director assist with coordination, management, and oversight of 5 annual community building and career exploration events
  • Outreach to all families/guardians explaining program expectations, process and schedule confirmation 
  • Create and send monthly program updates to families/guardians
  • Assist with social media management

Administrative

  • Maintain accurate records of program measurements and outcomes
  • Oversee weekly timesheets and bi-weekly payroll reporting for interns and obtain all necessary documentation for reporting
  • Help create surveys and program measurement metrics

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • At least 4 years working in technical theater and/or event production with clear understanding of the skills necessary to work as a professional in the field
  • Experience working with youth and families from varied socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds 
  • Commitment to promoting racial justice and equity in workforce development
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills
  • Strong relationship building and customer service skills, and the ability to navigate between employer and intern needs
  • Commitment to work in team settings
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Experience using Google Suite
  • A good listener and a self starter that provides solutions

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position is a combination of at-home administrative work, and in-person work at various locations. Must have sufficient mobility to travel to neighborhoods in the Boston area to visit theaters, venues, and schools.
