POSITION: Vice President, Strategic Communications

LOCATION: Remote/Washington, DC

American Bridge 21st Century, a progressive research and communications organization dedicated to holding Republicans accountable for their words and actions, is hiring a Vice President of Strategic Communications to develop and oversee the messaging, earned media, and rapid response strategy for the organization’s programs. This includes managing the earned media portfolio for the newly established Biden War Room, ongoing electoral programs (both federal and state), American Bridge’s senior leadership and board members, and the organization itself, both nationally and locally. 

This position will be a member of the organization’s senior staff and reports to the organization’s President. The Vice President of Strategic Communications will be responsible for interfacing with partners and allies as well as collaborating with other members of the leadership team. The position is currently remote but will ultimately be based in Washington, D.C.

Primary responsibilities include:

• Design, build, and manage a team to help drive a successful earned media strategy in battleground states and help to define the Biden agenda for battleground states 
• Building an aggressive, comprehensive strategic communications plan for the organization, its leadership, and its programs that will expand the organization’s footprint in local and national media 
• Developing proactive and creative earned media strategies, identifying new tactics to drive news coverage
• Overseeing a senior team of communications strategists tasked with implementing strategic communications plans for each of the organization’s programs 
• Overseeing in-house content creation and some advertising efforts as appropriate, particularly during rapid response opportunities
• Participating in regular strategy sessions and daily planning meetings on overall message development as well as press plans for the week/day ahead, both for the organization as well as senior leadership and board members 
• Working with partners and allied organizations to coordinate and amplify earned media efforts 

Additional responsibilities may include:

• Prepping senior leadership and board members for media interviews 
• Serving as a senior spokesperson for the organization on broadcast media 
• Pitching stories to local and national media outlet and responding to reporter inquiries

The ideal candidate will:

• Have at least eight to ten years of experience in a communications capacity on a campaign or in a similar environment, including at least 4 years of management experience 
• Campaign experience in a leadership role, including experience working closely with opposition researchers to pitch stories
• Strong relationships with local and national media, particularly with cable and broadcast news outlets 
• Significant on-the-record, including on-camera, experience 
• Experience training and preparing principals for media appearances 
• Have a firm grasp of today’s traditional and social media environments
• A desire to bring creativity and innovation to the earned media space 
• Enjoy working closely with others of diverse backgrounds and personalities 
• Work well under pressure and on deadline
