Description

Intro/Program Description: Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities, or “NORC”, promote the concept of “aging in place” by providing a myriad of services for residents which enable them to remain in their homes. The Lincoln Square Neighborhood Center/Amsterdam Houses/Addition NORC is comprised of 14 buildings that make up the Amsterdam Houses and Amsterdam Addition NYC Housing Authority buildings. We provide the residents age 60+ with services – including social work/case management services provided by on-site Goddard Riverside social work staff. The NORC at Lincoln Square Neighborhood Center is part of a hybrid Senior Center/NORC in which services of the two programs integrate seamlessly.


Purpose of Position: The Program Director provides leadership and management of the program including staff supervision ensuring proper data collection and reporting to funders, development and maintenance of community relationships. The program director works in close collaboration with the director of the West 65th Street Senior Center which shares space and participants.



Role, Responsibilities, and Essential Duties

1) Staff Supervision:

  • Supervise NORC case managers, interns and volunteers; recruit, hire, train, and evaluate staff

  • Facilitate regular case conferencing staff meetings of the NORC and Senior Center social workers/case managers
  • Work in close partnership with the senior center director to ensure warm environment, culture of respect, quality services and customer service orientation

2) Agency Liaison:

  • Work in close partnership with the senior center director
  • Conduct meeting with Advisory Council and community partners
  • Link program with government agencies and other service and advocacy organizations
  • Represent NORC at GRCC program directors meeting and communicate agency –wide information
  • to staff
  • Participate in Senior Services program planning

3) Program and Contract administration:

  • Manage program budget in consultation with Deputy Executive Director (DED) and Associate DED
  • Ensure adherence to contract requirements including data collection and reporting, maintenance of records and documentation of program activities

4) Client Services:

  • In collaboration with staff and members, identify needs and problems of elderly residents living independently; assist and advocate for clients and client population
  • on a wide range of issues including entitlements, insurance health coverage and housing issues
  • Ensure program provides a welcoming environment
  • In partnership with senior center director, oversee the development and implementation of a program of activities that are responsive to member needs and aspirations
  • Perform outreach and home visits to encourage clients to participate and determine their needs
  • Document services provided and client status in case records according to program guidelines
  • Handle emergencies and support staff in their efforts to provide necessary crisis intervention
  • Manage a small case load of clients as needed

 5) Case to cause advocacy:

  • With staff and supervisors, note trends in client needs and service gaps, and bring these to attention of senior staff and citywide advocacy organizations
  • Participate in Goddard Riverside advocacy and community building activities



Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • Master of Social Work
  • NYS Social Work Licensure strongly preferred
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience with the elderly
