Provides clerical assistance to the Executive Director and additional staff of the Secretariat of Evangelization and Catechesis. Contributes to the Bishops’ strategic plan for the Conference. Demonstrates willingness and ability to understand, respect and contribute to the USCCB mission and to fulfill job duties in accordance with its Catholic identity.


Educational Level: H.S. diploma required; undergraduate degree or equivalent preferred

Major Field/Specialty: Church related expertise, theology, liberal arts


Other Specialized Training: (i.e. word processing, personal computer, knowledge of Catholic Church, etc.)

  • Knowledge of the Catholic Church and its beliefs, practices, and structures 
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of professional confidentiality
  • Proficiency with e-mail, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access software, social media, etc.  
  • Knowledge of office practices
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good organizational and time management skills

Type and Nature of Professional Experience: 

  • General office management and support, particularly in a religious or non-profit situation
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to use independent judgment and to take initiative
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with a team of staff, being able to take work from all of them, to prioritize tasks, and to communicate well with staff. 
  • Experience assisting with budget planning and preparation
  • Experience drafting correspondence; taking and preparing minutes
  • Ability to follow established policies and procedures
  • Working collaboratively with peers, colleagues and others to achieve mission goals and objectives


Number of Years Required: 2-3 years work-related experience, preferably in a church system
