In this emerging organization, the newly created position of Director of Development is responsible for building and executing fundraising development plans, and effectively utilizing the information technology systems to support the function. Reporting to the Executive Director and with the ability to interact with the board of directors, the director of development will spearhead growth of a capital and major gifts campaign three days per week, working remotely. The director of development will be required to personally solicit donors, work with the Executive Director, a consultant and the marketing committee on organization's branding and messaging, and play a large role in the organization's public relations strategy. As the organization continues to grow, the director of development could become a full-time position overseeing a development team which they would be responsible to staff and maintain.
Candidates should hold a bachelor's degree (master's degree a plus) in business or a related field with at least 15+ years of experience in a non-profit leadership position or similar fundraising experience. Directors should have experience with operational processes in nonprofits and legalities surrounding non-profit fundraising techniques. Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial and communication skills. Ability to set deadlines and to work independently as well as collaboratively. Knowledge of medical research related fundraising a plus; affinity for pets desired. Some limited travel. Proximity to New York/Connecticut/New Jersey tri-state area a must.
