POSITION SUMMARY

The position of Director, Scaling & Learning will lead a combination of new and existing functions at Fountain House to translate and spread knowledge and build nationwide capacity for transforming care for people with serious mental illness (SMI). Fountain House is a national mental health not-for-profit organization fighting to improve health, increase opportunity, and end social and economic isolation for people living with severe mental illness. Fountain House has a 74-year history as a respected community-based organization that pioneered the Clubhouse model of psychosocial rehabilitation that has been replicated by 200 Clubhouses around the country and more than 300 across the globe.

The Research & Knowledge team plays a critical role not only in expanding the robust evidence base for the Fountain House care model but in translating and spreading that knowledge to impact policy, build capacity, and empower communities to transform support for people with SMI throughout the country. This new role will build off a proven training model and expand it to offer a more comprehensive set of training, technical assistance, advisory services, toolkits, and the development of other resources and outreach. 

The Director, Scaling & Learning should have experience in scaling innovations, consulting, and the development of toolkits and other resources. This person also should have demonstrated success in entrepreneurial (for-profit or not-for-profit) growth through effective business development and advocacy.

 Please Note: This position can accommodate New York or Washington residents.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build a new function in the organization that will scale the transfer of knowledge by providing a new suite of products & services, including consulting services, technical assistance, new toolkits & other resources
  • Create and lead a team that will provide advisory services to Clubhouses & healthcare providers around the country (both in-person and virtually)
  • Conduct market assessment to determine what services/content is needed & what potential clients are most in need of it
  • Develop a growth strategy for how to scale these new functions over time to build nationwide capacity
  • Translate the strategy into a tactical operational and business plan & execute on it
  • Build new revenue sources to expand the size of the team and impact of Fountain House knowledge
  • Structure new partnerships with array of stakeholders that facilitate the spread of knowledge & build capacity as effectively & efficiently as possible
  • Oversee the development of new toolkits & other resources that can be syndicated for widespread dissemination & use
  • Apply human-centered design principles to the development & evolution of new programs & services
  • Collaborate with the Fountain House affiliate network of clubhouses and work closely with the Fountain House network team on key strategic priorities
  • Build & sustain a healthy organizational culture on a team that includes existing expertise (training team) & new talent to be hired by the Managing Director

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated experience in leading people & teams to success by focusing on strategic objectives & maximizing the potential of all staff members
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial experience (in for-profit or not-for-profit sector) in growing new functions
  • Experience in applying human-centered design to problem solving & development of new products & programs 
  • Successful track record in business development—in selling new ideas, programs & models
  • Relevant healthcare and/or social services expertise, preferably with experience in mental health (or at least a passion for transforming the mental health system)
  • Exceptional oral & written communication skills
  • Ability to work with people & organizations that have a wide range of capabilities

REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND CREDENTIALS

  • Graduate degree in health, business, management, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in advisory services, product management & marketing, content development, business development, and scaling innovations on a national basis
