  • Our Learn & PlayGroups™ are specialized, community-based, and for parents and children together.  Through our innovative, specially designed Curriculum, our experienced facilitators bolster the protective factors to make families strong and children safe, strengthening the parent/child bond through developmentally appropriate, play-based learning.
  • Utilizing the Stewards of Children® Training program, the Center offers practical child sexual abuse prevention training for the Alexandria community.

Position Summary:

The Center for Alexandria’s Children (the Center) is Alexandria’s primary resource for the prevention, investigation and treatment of child abuse.  As part of Alexandria’s commitment for an aligned system of high-quality early care and educational services for early learners, the Center facilitates Learn & PlayGroups™ (LPGs) for ages 0-5.   The LPG Program bolster this commitment by providing resources, parenting guidance, developmentally appropriate activities and protective factors to make families strong and children safe.

Through an innovative, specially designed curriculum, experienced facilitators strengthen the parent/child bond through age appropriate, play-based learning.  Programming engages and supports the engagement of all children and families in need and ensures it reaches and positively impacts those children who are not currently aware or able to experience this type of programming.  The Center and the LPGs understand the importance of community involvement and as a collective collaborative by working with city resources to acknowledge embedded societal inequities and implement changes to remediate inequity.

Utilizing aligned curriculum based on Virginia’s Milestones of Early Childhood Development and Foundation Blocks, the Learn & PlayGroups support the five protective factors of the research-based child abuse prevention model, Strengthening Families:
