Position Summary:         

UJA’s Development Associate for the Communal Service Division and LGBTQ Pride will be responsible for (1) Directing the Communal Service Division; (2) Organizing the Trustee Campaign; and (3) Coordinating the LGBTQ Pride Initiative.

Major Responsibilities:

1.Oversee Agency Trustee Campaign

  • Oversee the Agency Trustee Campaign, including the solicitation plans for Core Partner board members
  • Involve Agency Trustee Chair and Committee in a strategic manner; provide professional support to committee, including agenda setting, preparing reports and presentations, writing meeting notes, and following up as necessary
  • Revitalize the Agency Trustee Celebration to make it more meaningful for attendees and draw higher attendance
  • Deepen the Trustee Campaign by partnering with PLG to design and execute unique cultivation strategies for individual agency board members with the most significant capacity
  • Collaborate with staff in other divisions to implement strategies involving donors across divisional lines, including Annual Campaign, Planned Giving and Endowments Campaign, and Capital and Special Initiatives Campaign

2. Direct Communal Service Division (CSD)

  • Oversee the core partner Staff Campaigns to raise $1 million each year from trustees and professionals
  • Support CSD Chairs in speaking to FAEC and acting as signatories for CSD correspondence
  • Support of core partner agency staff campaigns, including the timeline, materials, and all other resources needed
  • Work with the Donor Development Service team to oversee payroll deduction and processing from Core Partners
  • Work with the Community Outreach team to engage agency staff in UJA community events and opportunities in order to deepen their personal relationships with UJA

3. Oversee LGBTQ Pride Initiative

  • Oversee LGBTQ Pride Committee and engage them in setting Pride strategy 
  • Coordinate a series of Pride events to engage LGBTQ community with UJA, including local events and missions
  • Bolster relationships and collaborate with other LGBTQ and Jewish organizations around New York and Israel
  • Liaise with UJA planners to place LGBTQ on allocation committees, and advocate for LGBTQ and other minorities to UJA leadership
  • Engage LGBTQ donors with divisions and activities across and fundraise from the LGBTQ community


  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred
  • Three-plus years of fundraising or related work experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service orientation
  • Passion for UJA-Federation’s mission
  • Knowledge of issues facing the Jewish community at large and the LGBTQ community in particular
  • Must be a team player, willing to help support and staff Manhattan Division and FRD events
  • Must be extremely organized and detailed-oriented to keep a handle on extensive number of simultaneous reports, processes, and procedures
  • Must have strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and Power Point
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Entrepreneurial self-starter
