Exciting opportunity to build the movement for racial, economic, and social justice in Contra Costa County

Reports to: Lift Up Contra Costa Advisory Board

Lift Up Contra Costa is offering a permanent, full time, salaried position beginning immediately including a competitive salary commensurate with experience. This position is grant funded, with full funding secured for the first year.

Lift Up Contra Costa is seeking a skilled and experienced Executive Director to help engage and guide nine partner organizations of Lift Up Contra Costa and to recruit and develop a volunteer force in target areas, currently the East Contra Costa area including Pittsburg and Antioch This coalition table seeks to build the power needed in Contra Costa to shift the local, regional and statewide landscape and to lift up low wage workers, people of color, tenants and immigrants. A group of strategic economic, labor, environmental and racial justice organizations has come together to develop Lift Up Contra Costa as a county-wide civic engagement table. The goals of the table are to:

1. Build power in Contra Costa County towards realizing a vision of economic, environmental, racial, and healthcare justice shared and advanced by local organizations across the county.
2. Add capacity to organizations doing the work in the county to build organizing and civic engagement infrastructure in Central and East County
3. Create political alignment as articulated by a shared vision and platform among partners.
4. Coordinate issue advocacy, fieldwork, movement building, and politics across Contra Costa’s
5. varied communities.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Executive Director will work with and report to the Lift Up Contra Costa Advisory Board and be a part of the senior leadership team for the Lift Up, Contra Costa. They will collaborate with the Advisory Board to implement the goals of the coalition, provide analytical and strategic leadership on campaigns, fundraise and manage the budget, and develop and maintain relationships with policymakers and senior-level external allies. This position maintains both internal and external responsibilities. External roles include representing the organization with policymakers, elected officials, allies, funders and donors, and the media. Internal roles include managing policy advocacy and voter outreach campaigns, providing strategic leadership and direction to the research and field teams, supporting fundraising, and staff management. The Executive Director will be staff for both a C(3) and a C(4) organization

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Collaborate with the Advisory Board on coalition strategy, direction, and
• decision-making. Coordinate regular coalition meetings and ensure clear and shared
• vision across partners.
• Drive our organizing and policy agenda consistent with the coalition’s mission and serve
• as the coalition’s senior external campaigns coordinator.
• Help fundraise and manage LUCC’s c3 and c4 annual budget, manage grants, and facilitate fundraising team that includes LUCC Advisory Board members.
• Supervise campaign, administrative, and communications staff and interns.
• Lead public policy and voter outreach campaigns, in collaboration with the staff of the
• coalition’s partner organization, to further our goals of building a just and inclusive regional economy.
• Provide strategic leadership to our research and field teams, working with staff to ensure implementation of the coalition’s goals. Coordinate voter outreach programs across the County in service of our coalition’s goals.
• Arrange for meetings, briefings, and strategy discussions with elected officials, allies, and policymakers about our work.
• Engage with a variety of stakeholders, including labor, the faith community, social justice allies, and policy-makers, to craft and spearhead our agenda.
• Participate in regional, statewide, and national coalitions as needed.
• C(4) work will include helping to organize election campaign offices. These campaign
• organizations are organized with the intention to continue as support and advocacy organizations for the candidate once elected as well as training grounds for new candidates and organizers.
• C(4) work will include programs to develop new candidates and assist them in developing initial campaigns
• Help cultivate other leaders and groups to engage in political and electoral work, especially in East County, in order to expand engagement and grow LUCC’s political power.

Qualifications:

• Experience in grassroots political campaigns, preferably California, leading coalition
• work/civic engagement and/or advocacy campaign work
• Strong organizational development and facilitation skills
• Politically aligned with the coalition’s mission
• Experience fundraising and managing budgets and bookkeeping
• Preferred: Knowledge of Contra Costa’s political landscape
• Possess a driver’s license and has a car/ability and willingness to get around Contra Costa
• County.

Compensation: This position will be administered through LUCC’s fiscal sponsor, The Tides Foundation. Applications accepted on a rolling basis, with priority to those applications received by March 15, 2021. The salary range is between $80,000 - $100,000 depending on experience.
