Organizational Overview:

Founded in 2000, the New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault’s (the Alliance) mission is to prevent sexual violence and reduce the harm it causes through education, research, and advocacy.

The Alliance works closely with the city’s rape crisis programs and hospitals, District Attorney’s Offices, New York Police Department, court officials and city leaders to develop and implement best practices and policies, raise public awareness, and create sustainable change for survivors. Through training, advocacy and research, the Alliance has been an active force in fighting for recognition of the magnitude of the problem of sexual violence in New York City (NYC).

 

Position Overview:

In response to state legislation passed in 2015 by Governor Cuomo to require substantial changes in policy and practices on college campuses state-wide, the Alliance created Campus Training Institute, designed to build capacity of our campus and rape crisis partners to end sexual violence through education, policy change, and advocacy.

This Campus Sexual Assault Coordinator will be responsible for the design and delivery of training, resources, and technical assistance for diverse campus populations, including student affairs and Title IX professionals, students, faculty, and other staff. The Coordinator will be responsible for managing active partnership with 8-12 campuses at a time, coordinating the provision of program and services to ensure proposed deliverables are carried out according to approved timeline. 

Specific responsibilities inherent to the position include: 

  • Create, implement, and assess comprehensive, trauma-informed, evidence-based educational programming on sexual violence prevention for diverse campus audience;
  • Provide technical assistance and resources to college campuses to develop innovative strategies and environmental interventions to reduce risk of sexual assault as well as strengthen services related to prevention, reporting, and response to sexual violence;
  • Work with universities/colleges to creating enduring structures in their institution to address the issue of sexual assault;
  • Build partnerships and collaborations with offices and departments across partner campuses, as well as maintain regular communication to further the strategic goals related to the Alliance’s mission;
  • Develop tailored educational campaigns for under-served student populations, including international students, students of color, LGBTQ+ student populations, etc. at partner campuses;
  • Complete annual needs assessments and coordinating monitoring workplace deliverables;
  • Represent the Alliance at various prevention events, citywide coalitions and task forces;
  • Prepare program and grant reports; and assist with preparing grant proposals;
  • Support interns and volunteers as necessary;
  • Collaborate with Alliance staff on shared program goals.


Qualifications/Skills:

  • A Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of experience working in the field of sexual violence, with a focus on either: public health, social justice, survivor advocacy, sexual violence, and/or community organizing required;
  • Demonstrable experience in delivering trauma-informed, evidence-based training and technical assistance programs;
  • Experience working in or with higher education settings;
  • Preference will be given to candidates trained in one or more evidence-informed sexual violence prevention curriculum and/or those with significant policy change experience;
  • Demonstrable skills in program design, implementation and project management; as well as ability to advance programs from planning to execution strongly desired;
  • Excellent facilitation skills;
  • Sensitivity to the impact of sexual violence in diverse communities and the ability to articulate these concerns to various stakeholders in a sensitive and respectful manner;
  • Dedication to using a social justice, anti-oppression, anti-racist framework to carry out work. 


Compensation:

Compensation for this position is $65,000 and includes a competitive benefits package.

 

Working Environment:

As the Alliance restarts operations, the organization is operating in a full-remote capacity. Once programming has fully restarted, we anticipate offering a mixture of in-person and virtual training opportunities for the communities and organizations we serve. As a result, staff will have access to flexible, hybrid work schedules, though occasional in-person meetings and training sessions will be necessary.
