The Homeless Children’s Playtime Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing trauma-informed and educational play programs, as well as advocating for families living in emergency and transitional housing programs. Playtime's programs bring joy, a therapeutic environment, and access to community resources to children and youth who are experiencing homelessness.    

The Program Associate:

The Program Associate supports the Site Manager in running multiple program sessions and guides the volunteers in providing superior service delivery. The Associate also takes the lead organizing and managing the logistics of resource delivery especially during high season, which kicks off with our Back to School Drive in July and ends with our holiday wish list program in December.  

 Core Duties:

Program Delivery: Support the Site Manager in implementing a play-based program model. Assist the Site Manager in overseeing play programs for multiple sessions per week by creating and supervising age-appropriate, guided activities with intentional therapeutic and educational benefits. In the absence of the Site Manager, maintain the playroom's procedures and expectations with a focus on the positive discipline model.  

Compliance & Reporting:  With the Site Manager, ensure compliance with requirements for program service documentation, which includes incident reports, attendance, surveys and registrations forms. Support the Site Manager in entering corresponding forms into Apricot.   

Resource Delivery:  Work collaboratively with the Curriculum and Evaluation Specialist in providing fun, creative, varied and intentional, as well as culturally and developmentally appropriate activities for children and youth. Stock materials and supplies for activities to ensure that all planned activities that can be implemented on site. Support the Curriculum and Evaluation Specialist and Managing Director in delivering quarterly training to volunteer regarding curriculum design and the Playbook. 

Education & Experience: 

  • Associate's degree is required (child development or education preferred) 
  • At least 3-5 years working in the youth service field serving children between the ages of six months and twelve years old, residing within a high-needs community 

Schedule:

Must be present for Monday staff meetings at 1:00 p.m.

2 evening program sessions per week with one of the following on-site schedules:

Monday and Wednesday

Tuesday and Thursday

Wednesday and Thursday

Monday and Thursday

or Monday and Wednesday

and one Saturday per month for field trips

Level of Language Proficiency

Fluent in English.

High School diploma is required.

3-5 years of experience working in the youth service field serving children from high-need community (between the ages of six months and 7 years old) expected.

Some experience working with volunteer-driven organizations.

Willingness to travel within DC. 

A car is useful but not required.
