Old Sturbridge Village, Inc. (OSV), the largest outdoor

history museum in the Northeast, seeks a Development Officer, Special Events

to support the organization’s fundraising priorities by planning, executing,

and managing special events for our donor community, including our Gala, the

President’s Award, the Ken Burns Lifetime Achievement Award, the Joan M.

McGrath Memorial Dinner and Lecture, the Federalist Dinner, the Cornerstone

Circle Evening of Appreciation, the President’s Cocktail Party, and others. The

Development Officer will work closely with the Development, Communications, and

Executive departments as well as volunteer committees to support the Village by

engaging individual donors, corporate sponsors, and event committee members

with memorable events that energize the community around the Village’s mission.


Reporting to the Director of Annual Fund and Membership, this person will be responsible for:

  • Managing logistics for all development special events
  • Creating and managing project plans, timelines, and budgets for each event
  • Managing relationships with external vendors and internal departments to facilitate services for each event, including overseeing vendor contracts and payment schedules
  • Coordinating with the Communications department on the production of all event materials such as save-the-dates, invitations, event websites, programs, signs, sponsor recognition, social media, and event photography
  • Managing all required post-event activities such as donor follow-up, debriefing with event committees, final reporting, and closing out of vendor invoices
  • Documenting all relevant constituent information in a timely manner in the Altru CRM
  • Soliciting in-kind donations for auctions and assisting in the solicitation of corporate sponsors for our 75th Anniversary Gala in June 2022
  • Serving as the on-site point person for all special events, coordinating vendors, internal staff, Board members, guest speakers and honorees, and invited guests
  • Coordinating with high profile guest speakers and honorees, including at times arranging travel, accommodations, etc.
  • Developing strategies aimed at generating the desired event attendance and, if applicable, revenue
  • Stewarding and cultivating relationships with individual donors, corporate sponsors, and Board members through event committees and attendance
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements:

  • 3 or more years of experience in development and/or special events
  • Proven success in planning and executing high profile events of various sizes, preferably for a nonprofit organization
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work proactively and independently under tight deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Ability to collaborate and work within a team, including close coordination with colleagues to achieve desired outcomes within a set timeframe
  • Ability to multi-task and work on a number of events and projects simultaneously
  • Flexibility and “grace under pressure” – ability to adapt to changes and unexpected events
  • Ability to manage donor information with discretion and confidentiality
  • Experience with a CRM donor database preferred but not required (the Village uses Blackbaud’s Altru system)
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred


The successful candidate will be expected to commute daily to the museum’s offices in Sturbridge, MA. This position requires occasional nights and weekends for committee meetings and special events.
