The Desert Research Institute, Office of Education in Reno, Nevada, is seeking a full-time financial and program assistant to handle a variety of financial, administrative, and project duties. Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President for Academic and Faculty Affairs (AVPAFA), the position will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the administrative activities of the AVPAFA and the faculty and staff in the Office of Education. Responsibilities will include assisting with scheduling meetings, logistics of travel and meetings, managing daily correspondence with internal and external customers, processing expense reports, handling timesheets, and purchasing card reconciliation. In addition to general organization and operation of the Office of Education, such as managing calendars, maintaining files, composing correspondence and reports, coordinating with outside vendors for events, and handling any incoming issues and concerns with the AVPAFA.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and four years of full-time progressively related experience;
  • OR Associates degree and 2 years of full-time relevant experience
  • Intermediate computer skills with MS Office Excel, Word, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with fellow employees, departments, and other campus personnel
  • Knowledge and familiarity with budgets, and the budget process
  • Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information and documentation
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and commitment to meet deadlines
  • Detail-oriented with strong degree of accuracy and reliability as well as sound judgment
  • Ability to work independently and carry out assignments with minimal supervision

Conditions of Employment 

  • Employment is contingent upon a successful completion of a background check
  • This position requires the ability to perform physical tasks, such as moving or lifting objects up to 30 lbs., and occasional stooping, bending and kneeling to support office, hosted events and meetings
  • The position requires occasional travel to Las Vegas, NV to help coordinate events for Science Alive and the Office of Education
  • Finalists will be required to successfully pass skills testing to include software programs (Word, Excel and Outlook)

Compensation Grade/Benefits

This is a DRI Technologist position Grade 31 or 33 position depending upon qualifications, with a minimum starting base salary of $41,615 for a grade 31 and $45,045 for a grade 33. This position is eligible for benefits and relocation assistance; see Technologists benefits summary for an overview:
