OVERVIEW:      Research, initiate, develop, and facilitate collaborative partnerships and sponsorships that generate revenue for, as well as increase engagement in Northwest Folklife’s programs and events. Building relationships should promote the mission of NWFL and cultivate investments centered on equity, community engagement, and artistic excellence.

REPORTS TO:    Managing Director & Executive Artistic Director

FLSA STATUS:   Full-time (32-40 Hours)*, Non-Exempt, Benefits  

SALARY:            Range is dependent on experience and qualifications – minimum $18/hour


*As Northwest Folklife produces multiple programs and events, work schedule flexibility is necessary. Candidates for this position must have the ability to work some evening and weekends, particularly around the Annual Festival in May. Scheduling will be negotiated with your supervisors.


CORPORATE RELATIONS & REVENUE DEVELOPMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Working with the Managing Director, Executive Artistic Director and other relevant staff:

  • Develop, implement, and report progress on corporate relationship building strategies. This includes establishing revenue and engagement goals to adequately support the operation of NWFL programs and events, including the Annual Northwest Folklife Festival in May and the year-round Our Big Neighborhood initiative activities.
  • Research and develop database and profiles for new prospects, as well as lapsed corporate partners.
  • Prepare presentations and proposals, as well as tailor collateral for potential corporate partners.
  • Contact, engage, lead and/or coordinate negotiations with and document communications with potential corporate partners/sponsors. Follow-up appropriately with leads until contracts have been signed and recorded.
  • Coordinate with Sponsorship & Merchant Coordinator and Accounting Team to log and track fulfillment terms and payment.

MEDIA RELATIONS & SPONSORSHIP

Working with the Managing Director, Executive Artistic Director and other relevant staff:

  • Develop, implement, and report progress on media relationship building strategies. This includes establishing engagement and community visibility goals which amplifies organizational vision, mission and values, and determining metrics for measuring return on media exposure.
  • Implement strategies and tactics to enhance Northwest Folklife’s visibility and viability as a community resource.
  • Research and develop database and profiles for new prospects, as well as lapsed media partners. Particularly towards increasing engagement with web-based and ethnic media sources.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Coordinator to prepare presentations and proposals, as well as tailor collateral for potential media partners.
  • Contact, engage, lead and/or coordinate negotiations with and document communications with potential media partners/sponsors. Follow-up appropriately with leads until contracts have been signed and recorded. Transmit contracts and fulfillment responsibilities to the Communications Coordinator as appropriate.
  • Coordinate with Communications Coordinator and Accounting Team to log and track fulfillment terms and payment.
  • Oversee general and onsite media relations at NWFL programs and events. Ensure that appropriate leadership and staff are aware of public engagements, media presence and attitude, as well as potential opportunities or challenges for media interactions.

RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES

Working with the Managing Director, Executive Artistic Director and other relevant staff:

  • Represent and promote Northwest Folklife to a variety of constituents and stakeholders including: Corporate and philanthropic entities; community organizations and partners; various media outlets; the NWFL Board of Directors, and; the general public.
  • Collaborate with leadership and staff to advance the organizational mission through public relations, increased engagement and revenue development.
  • Attend regular staff and team meetings.
  • Occasionally attend board committee meetings to report on related activities.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • A passion for: Arts and culture, promoting cultural exchange, and community building.
  • Initiative, a positive attitude, and demonstrated collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prospect, profile, cultivate and manage new partnerships and accounts.
  • Demonstrated experience with pitch development, negotiation and contracting.
  • Some established connections with corporate marketing contacts and/or media outlets.
  • Demonstrated success in developing, engaging, and managing relationship-building strategies.
  • Understanding of budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and work under pressure efficiently, with grace.
  • Excellent problem solving skills with strategic and project management capabilities.
  • Fluency in MS Office applications, G-suite applications, task management software and database programs.
  • Event experience a must, large scale event experience a plus.
  • Oral and/or written fluency in multiple languages a plus.
