Are you a changemaker? Jumpstart your career and fight poverty by serving with Campus Compact AmeriCorp VISTA! We have positions across the country and multiple start dates throughout July and August.

Campus Compact mobilizes colleges and universities to be social change agents through their teaching, research, and service. We partner with faculty, staff, students, and community partners to address critical issues on campus and in the community to build a more just, equitable democracy. Service and civic engagement is at the heart of work. 

Placed at campuses across the country from Massachusetts to Hawai’i, our AmeriCorps VISTAs support low-income individuals and veterans by addressing critical issues such as educational attainment, job readiness, food security, economic mobility, housing, access to healthcare, and sustainability. Our members have a variety of duties including developing partnerships, mobilizing and training volunteers, raising money, enhancing communications, evaluating programs, and much more. 

Serving with Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA will allow you to advance your ability to make change on a local level as well as enhance your technical and transferable skills for future employment and studies. You'll be part of a dynamic, national cohort that is passionate about anti-poverty work and increasing lifelong civic engagement. Qualifications: 

  • Have an associates degree or higher
  • A strong ethic of service and commitment to anti-poverty work
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative environment
  • Strong organizational abilities and project and time management skills
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing workload
  • Proficiency with MS office programs, including Outlook, Word, & Excel
  • Deep personal and professional commitment to equity and inclusion  
  • Experience recruiting or managing volunteers, planning events, and/or working with low-income populations preferred

Eligibility

  • 18 years of age or older
  • U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident of the United States
  • Availability full-time 35 hours per week
  • Must go through background checks
  • US citizen, US national, or lawful permanent residents, or persons legally residing in a state. Persons legally residing in a state include (but are not limited to) those having the following legal residency classifications: refugee status, asylum or asylee status, temporary protected status, and deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) status. Unfortunately, F1 Visas are not sufficient.

USD $15,000 - USD $26,000

AmeriCorps VISTAs earn a living allowance during their term of service. The amount is set by AmeriCorps and will range from $15-26K.

  • Relocation and travel reimbursement if you’re relocating over 50 miles to serve
  • 10 personal days, 10 sick days, 9 holidays, and a week off between Christmas and New Years.
  • Eligible to receive Segal AmeriCorps Education Award ($6,395.00), or a cash award ($1,800.00) after successful completion of your service year – By law, only AmeriCorps VISTA members who are either U.S. Citizens, U.S. Nationals, or Lawful Permanent Resident Aliens—sometimes referred to as “Lawful Permanent Residents”—are eligible to receive an AmeriCorps Segal Education Award. All other members will receive an end-of-service cash stipend.
  • Loan forbearance and interest accrual repayment on qualified student loans; private loans are not eligible
  • Non-competitive eligibility for federal employment
  • Unique cohort experience, including an orientation, regular professional development, multi-day retreats, and one-on-one support from VISTA Leaders and staff.
