The Public Programs Manager (Seasonal) leads inclusive stewardship programs for broad public audiences. They are also responsible for hiring and supervising seasonal staff and volunteers to run these programs
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS / KEY JOB OUTCOMES
- Manage, carry out, and evaluate inclusive stewardship programs from broad public audiences, primarily on weekends and Mondays
- Assist with the ongoing development and creation of inclusive stewardship programs throughout spring, summer and fall
- Recruit, hire, supervise, and train Volunteer Services seasonal staff and volunteers
- Oversee safe storage, usage, and maintenance of stewardship program tools, supplies, facilities and office supplies
- Collaborate with Volunteer Services staff and Communications and External Relations department to attract and retain diverse individuals and community groups for stewardship programs
- Participate in long-term planning and key decision making for the department
- Assist in the development of project budgets and ensure that expenses are in line with the budget
- Coordinate with other departments to support public programs
- Transport materials for programs as needed
Performs other job-related duties and functions as assigned
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent, Bachelor's degree preferred
- A minimum of two (2) years of coordination experience in community programs and a minimum of three (3) months experience doing outdoor manual labor. Must have at least six (6) months experience in a managerial or leadership role leading a team.
- A valid NYS Driver’s License and willingness to drive a variety of Parks vehicles

Ability to generate interest in the environment and natural world by highlighting historical, ecological or scientific features of outdoor surroundings.

- Public Speaking: Must have excellent verbal communication skills and ability to impart key information to your audience. Should be able to engage with an audience and interact with members of the public.
