TITLE:                  Director of Development (Full-time Position)

REPORTS TO:     Executive Director

SUMMARY

Reporting and in partnership with the Executive Director (ED), the Director of Development will lead exalt’s development and fundraising efforts. The Director of Development will cultivate individual donors, as well as foundation, government and corporate giving.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Spearhead and execute exalt’s first scaling campaign to raise $2 million dollars over 3 years.

·        Execute and plan to meet 1.4 million dollars of exalt’s annual fundraising goals.

·        Design, develop and implement a broad based development plan which includes major individual, corporate, foundation and government funding, special events, direct mail and cause related marketing.

·        Develop and track all proposals and reports to foundations.

·        Prospect for Government funding.

·        Manage complete grant cycle process: write high quality grant applications and proposals including budgets and prepare other materials as needed: reports, letters of intent, program briefs, etc.; manage submission process and follow-up.

·        Provide leadership to the Fundraising Committee of the Board and other board members in cultivating potential donors and meeting their fundraising goals.

·        Retain and grow existing portfolio of foundation and government partnerships; steward and solicit prospects to secure and grow new funding sources.

·        Identify and implement new cultivation and stewardship opportunities to expand individual giving.

·        Prospect research and identification:

·        Developing a regularly updated list of institutional funding prospects for circulation to the Board of Directors, staff, etc. for contact identification.

·        Tracking, developing strategies, preparing submissions and follow-up on all contacts resulting from the list.

·        Acknowledgement and recognition of gifts. 

·        Collaborate with Deputy Director to develop new funding opportunities for programming.

·        Assist in identifying and cultivating corporate prospects to fund organization priorities.

·        Oversee Special Events, yearly gala and work with events chairs to meet fundraising goals.

·        Manage direct mail/online program, increasing the amount given by current major gifts donors and growing the number of major gifts donors.  

·        Manage creative and messaging content for various communications such as e-mail solicitations, annual reports, press releases, and sponsorship decks.

·        Financial Reporting: Work with accountant to develop and produce financial and other related reports for all fundraising programs.

·        Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

 

·        A Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of development leadership experience in non-profit sector required.

·        Superior track record of identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major individual and institutional donors.

·        Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to develop and deliver successful presentations.

·        Experience managing staff and liaising with a Board of Directors.

·        Strong time-management skills and ability to work efficiently and effectively in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment.

·        Knowledge of the New York City philanthropic community.

·        Knowledge of Government funding a plus.

·        Excellent computer skills: proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required.
