The Fund for Public Health in New York City, (FPHNYC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to the advancement of the health and well-being of all New Yorkers. To this end, in partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), FPHNYC incubates innovative public health initiatives implemented by DOHMH to advance community health throughout the city. It facilitates partnerships, often new and unconventional, between government and the private sector to develop, test, and launch new initiatives. These collaborations speed the execution of demonstration projects, effect expansion of successful pilot programs, and support rapid implementation to meet the public health needs of individuals, families, and communities across New York City.
The Center for Health Equity & Community Wellness (CHECW) aims to eliminate racial inequities resulting in premature mortality by addressing the social and environmental factors that impact health. CHECW works to increase placed-based investments in priority neighborhoods with community programming and services based on epidemiology; influence and leverage the health system to promote whole-person care; intensify the agency’s approach to tackling big salt, sugar, and tobacco; and finding innovative ways to improve the built environment and address the social determinants of health and root causes of health inequities. During the COVID-19 pandemic, CHECW is working directly with communities experiencing the unjust impacts of inequities exacerbated by COVID-19, including impacts like high mortality rates, food insecurity, loss of employment, and eviction.
The Health Department is working towards driving an equitable recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. This requires that the communities hit hardest by the pandemic have access to the vaccine, have confidence taking the vaccine, and have access to needed health and social. The Health Department’s COVID-19 Equity Action Plan recognizes that underinvestment and structural racism are the root causes of the disproportionate burden of COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths seen in priority neighborhoods.
The Public Housing COVID-19 Recovery Program will drive equitable pandemic recovery in priority public housing communities that have experienced longstanding health inequities and more recently, low vaccination rates. The program will fund community-based organizations to build up and utilize a workforce of community health workers (CHWs) to deeply engage with priority NYCHA neighborhoods in COVID-19 recovery, focused on increasing COVID-19 vaccination, addressing social and health factors that increase risk of severe COVID-19 illness, and leading community wellness programs and capacity building.
All in-person work will be at 42-09 28th Street, Long Island City, NY.
This position is funded for 1 year by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention through the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021, P.L. 116-260. There is the possibility of additional funding, contingent on grant renewal.
In partnership with the Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) and under the direction of the Program Manager, the Partner Coordinator for Public Housing COVID-19 Recovery will directly engage, and support community-based organizations charged with leading recovery in priority public housing neighborhoods in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island. This is a high priority project in partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA).
The partner coordinator will support the planning and implementation of deliverables for a portfolio approximately five organizations funded to lead the Public Housing COVID-19 Recovery program. The partner coordinator will be under the direct supervision of the Program Manager and will be coordinating the partners at the neighborhood level. The coordinator will provide critical support to ensure contract compliance, partner engagement, and partner capacity building in priority public housing communities to confront health inequities, misinformation, and disparate impacts of COVID-19.
The candidate should demonstrate the ability to manage relationships and engagement with organizations of varying capacity. The candidate should demonstrate experience and success in implementing technical assistance, capacity building and engagement strategies with a racial equity lens to community-based organizations to improve health outcomes.
Given the nature of COVID-19 pandemic and the ever-evolving landscape, some evening and weekend work may be required. Occasional travel to partners in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Staten Island, and Queens may be needed.
· Support contracted partners in fulfilling their deliverables. Work with CBOs to develop and agree on operational priorities and best practices to set them up for success in alignment with Health Department expectations
· Collaborate with Health Department Bureaus of Neighborhood Health to ensure alignment in the work being done in priority neighborhoods
· Coordinate and facilitate cross-collaboration between awardees
· Provide light technical assistance to partners in submitting their data to a platform built on Salesforce
· Convene and facilitate partner meetings to support collaboration and shared learning
· Support partners in navigating Health Department resources (programs, public health
speakers and collateral) that can support partner-led community wellness initiatives
· Support partners and other Health Department teams in navigating NYCHA systems and
· Coordinate with fellow borough coordinators to determine any overlap in community
outreach/engagement efforts within organizations.
· Ensure partners have the most up-to-date public health information and guidance
· Support the Program Manager in writing and the dissemination of program reports to
internal and external stakeholders
· Resolve partner challenges and elevate and recommend programmatic improvements
· Other duties as assigned
There is a potential for this position to transition to the Health Department and therefore candidates must meet their eligibility requirements, including NYC residency.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
The salary for this position is $65,000. FPHNYC offers a comprehensive benefits package.
