POSITION OPEN:  Full-Time Bilingual (Spanish-English) Community Education Trainer

Crisis Support Services of Alameda County ( www.crisissupport.org) , a non-profit agency, is seeking a qualified full time Bilingual (Spanish-English) Community Education Trainer. This person will be responsible for translating and presenting established mental health & suicide prevention workshops designed by our Community Education Program to diverse audiences in Alameda County, including a specific focus on providing these workshops to Spanish-speaking parents/guardians/caregivers and youth at school sites and other organizations. This position will report to the Program Director of Community Education. At this time, all presentations are being provided virtually with the aim to resume providing these workshops in person sometime this Spring to our Alameda County community organizations and schools. Alameda County includes the following cities (Albany, Berkeley, Castro Valley, Oakland, Hayward, San Lorenzo, San Leandro, Fremont, Union City, Pleasanton, Livermore, and Dublin)


Job Responsibilities

  • Provide mental health & suicide prevention workshops to a variety of adult audiences including, but not limited to: school staff, parents, caregivers, and other community members in English and Spanish
  • Provide suicide prevention workshops to youth in middle schools & high schools in English and Spanish
  • Translate established mental health & suicide prevention curricula designed by our Community Education Program
  • Create and translate program materials, including social media content
  • Attend health fairs and other community events to help create more visibility for our agency mission and the services that we provide to the residents of Alameda County.
  • Outreach to Spanish-speaking communities
  • Attend bi-weekly agency staff meeting and program meeting
  • Willing to work on the agency 24/7 crisis line and/or youth textline as requested
  • Willing to work in the evenings as needed in response to community requests

 

Qualifications

  • Bilingual fluency in written and spoken Spanish
  • Sensitive to the cultural and ethnic diversity of our Alameda County communities
  • Associate's or bachelor’s degree in a mental health, social science or closely-related field, health sciences, or health education at minimum is preferred. This may be substituted for comparable work experience
  • Demonstrated teaching experience required
  • Prior work experience working with youth required
  • At least 1-2 years experience working in any mental health, community-based, or education program preferred
  • Prior work experience in providing community-based health education or work experience as a promotora preferred
  • Excellent public speaking, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Prior experience in suicide prevention preferred. If no prior experience, must be willing to complete training on agency’s suicide prevention crisis line and/or youth textline
  • Must be comfortable using digital platforms for presentations (Google Slides, Microsoft Powerpoint, Zoom, Google Meet)
  • Regular access to an insured vehicle is preferred (mileage-based reimbursements are offered) or very comfortable using public transportation (BART, AC Transit) to travel throughout Alameda County.
  • Proof of vaccination against Covid-19 required
  • Must complete Background Check (DoJ and DMV) and LiveScan 

 Salary and Schedule

The hours are 40 hours per week. Due to the nature of the grants funding this position, the rate of pay for this position is 20 hours a week at $23.50 and 20 hours per week at $21.50.
