Women’s Support Services (WSS), a dynamic and effective domestic violence agency located in the beautiful Litchfield Hills of northwest Connecticut, is seeking an energetic, motivated and dedicated Community Educator and Outreach Coordinator who will take a leading role engaging boys and men in our work to end intimate partner violence.

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, this person is responsible for planning, developing, managing and facilitating the agency’s community education and training programs to service providers and civic/religious groups. The coordinator also serves as back up to the domestic violence hotline, facilitating shelter services and safety planning as needed. 

This position requires frequent travel among the agency’s service towns. Valid driver’s license, certificate of insurance and car required.   

Qualifications:

·        Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree preferred in education, social work, or related field, or 4+ years applicable experience

·        Comprehensive working knowledge of the dynamics of intimate partner violence, its effects on adults and children, and trauma informed practice

·        Awareness of the gendered dynamics of domestic violence

·        Ability to develop and evaluate written educational materials for all age groups

·        Experience in community networking and public speaking

·        Experience as a trainer and group facilitator

·        Ability to work collaboratively with staff and volunteers

·        Experience working with diverse groups

·        Ability to be self-motivated and self-directed to complete tasks in a timely manner

·        Competency with Microsoft Office programs, database management, and web-based research

·        Knowledge of and an ability to work with a with a variety of social media

·        Effective oral and written communication skills

·        Ability to maintain and complete timely, accurate statistical and narrative reports

·        Must obtain and maintain certification as a battered women's counselor per CGS 52- 146k11/99, before providing direct services
