Organization: Bay Area Legal Aid (BayLegal) ensures fairness in the civil justice system for the most vulnerable members of our community. Position:  We are seeking an Attorney for our Legal Advice Line which is located in our office in downtown Oakland, California. We are interested in candidates who are energetic, culturally competent and have a strong commitment to public interest and social justice advocacy. This person will be part of a team which provides counsel and advice to eligible clients primarily in the areas of housing, family law/domestic violence, consumer and public benefits, and the transition from welfare to employment. Opportunities for extended representation to eligible clients within the areas of housing, family law/domestic violence, consumer and public benefits will be available.


  • Membership with the California State Bar or law school graduate awaiting Bar results
  • Demonstrated commitment to public interest law and social justice advocacy;
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong organizational and computer skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team;
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, ever changing and high pressure environment;
  • Bilingual ability in Spanish is strongly preferred.  

·       Due to the nature of this position, a background check and fingerprinting is required (live scan).
