STAFF ACCOUNTANT

The Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation (Restoration) has been a prominent member of the Brooklyn community for over fifty years. As the nation's first community development corporation, Restoration successfully partners with residents and businesses to improve the quality of life of Central Brooklyn. Restoration is seeking an enthusiastic Staff Accountant.

Duties:

  • Reviews Accounts Payable (A/P), Cash Disbursement (C/D), Requisitioning/Purchasing, Rent Billings, Accounts Receivable (AR) and Cash Receipts (CR) activities on a regular basis.
  • Reviews and Reconciliation of Accounts Payable and Cash Disbursement transactions
  • Reviews and Reconciliation of Rent Billings, Accounts Receivable and Cash Receipts transactions
  • Performs Cash Transfers and Bank Reconciliations
  • Assists in Grant/Program and Annual Audit Processes
  • Ensures that A/P, C/D, A/R, C/R and G/L accounting practices and procedures are in-line with GAAP and are program compliant.
  • Assists in the development and preparation of annual budgets
  • Tracks and ensures the timely payment of priority invoices including utility, telephone, security, facility service contracts, leases, pension, insurance, mortgages, loans, notes and real estate, and corporate taxes.
  • Coordinates with managers and purchasing personnel to ensure that purchase orders are prepared prior to ordering goods and services, authorized by Executive Management and in-line with budgeted expenses.
  • Perform Payroll, A/P , Cash Disbursement, A/R and C/R Processing, as assigned
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of a structured accounting department that fosters continuous learning, and crossing training of staff members to ensure the objectives of the Finance Department are met.

Minimum Skills Set Experience & Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 4 years progressive accounting experience.
  • Bachelors or Masters in Accounting required.
  • Experience with computerized accounting software, including Financial Edge, and MS office.
  • Expertise with Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint.
  • Self-directed, solutions-oriented, multi-tasker, with strong communications and organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines and adept at managing peak work periods, and changing circumstances.
  • Tenacious in meeting deadlines and willingness to work late and on weekends, if necessary, to meet reporting and audit deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments/programs and be responsive to internal and external inquiries.
