The Leadership Conference Education Fund builds public will for federal, state, and local policies that promote and protect the civil and human rights of all persons in the United States. The Education Fund’s campaigns inform, educate, empower and mobilize leaders and advocates around the country to push for progressive change in the United States.
The Policing Campaign supports community-led collaborative policing reform to advance 21st Century, data-driven best practices. The campaign uses data to identify and expose the impact of policing practices on marginalized communities. As part of the broader campaign, the Leadership Conference will select local jurisdictions and will work with the community to develop opportunities for reform.
The Leadership Conference Education Fund seeks a Local Policing Campaign Manager in Dallas, Texas to oversee a campaign to work in coalition with the local community and the Dallas Police Department for policing reform. This project aims to empower communities to collaborate with law enforcement to advance best practices for fair and equitable policing that both honors the dignity of all people and enhances public safety.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assemble a broad-based coalition that represents Dallas’ diverse communities.
- Work with the coalition to build consensus for its goals based on the community’s interests and needs for bringing about sustainable policing reform.
- Develop and execute a strategic plan for the campaign.
- Stay abreast of key developments in policing reform locally, and coordinate the coalition’s response or involvement.
- Use community surveys and data-analysis tools to evaluate the effectiveness of the policing reform efforts.
- Engage law enforcement officials to develop and negotiate policy and practice reforms.
- Recruit, coordinate, and supervise campaign volunteers and interns.
- Work closely with the Policing Campaign Director and Manager in Washington, D.C.
Education and Experience:
- A bachelor’s degree preferred but not required;
- At least 5 years’ experience developing, organizing, and implementing successful advocacy campaigns and working in coalition with other organizations.
- Experience managing volunteers and/or other staff.
- Knowledge of and a demonstrated commitment to issues related to policing reform.
- Experience working with diverse communities directly affected by discriminatory policing.
- A strong network of connections in Dallas.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong public speaking skills
- A commitment to human and civil rights.
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications, database systems, and internet research.
- Must be a team player, with sound judgment, who thrives in a fast-paced collaborative environment, is a self-starter, can manage time efficiently, and is flexible.
This is a full-time18-month position.
