Railroad Street Youth Project (RSYP) is a small, youth-founded youth organization dedicated to youth empowerment, in southern part of the beautiful Berkshires of western Massachusetts. AT RAILROAD STREET, YOUTH TAKE THE LEAD. They explore their full potential and become equipped to meet the challenging transition to adulthood. RSYP’s professional staff expertly pairs youth generated ideas with community resources, empowering youth to create and oversee a wide range of innovative, life-changing projects. The position – The Change Coach is responsible for:

  • Coaching: work to support youth by offering non-clinical peer support.
  •  Recruit youth who are experiencing issues surrounding substance use within a one-on-one mentoring track. Conduct mentee recruitment campaign with the goal of recruiting a minimum of 10 mentees annually. Refer appropriate youth to RSYP’s substance use program.
  • Facilitating individual young people in the Drop-in Center and other settings to step into their own empowerment, dream big, problem solve, identify, and connect with resources and supports. 
  •  Co-facilitating sexual health education in local high school and early college settings using the Get Real evidence-based curriculum.
  • Assists in collection of information/data entry that pertains to grant related work.

Core Qualifications – The Change Coach embodies RSYP’s mission in day-to-day interactions with young people and approach to substance use. This position requires a person who has: 

  • Experience in working as a Recovery Coach with youth is strongly desired, or experience in related fields such as psychology, sociology, social work, substance use, education or social justice.
  • Experience recruiting youth and adults to programming and working with different personalities strongly preferred!
  • Experience/skills to work across social differences including age, race, socio-economic, gender, sexuality and ability. Experience working in rural communities a plus.
  • Ability to self-motivate and initiate tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with social media, Microsoft Word, and Google docs/calendar.
  • Willing to adapt and incorporate various therapeutic strategies for engaging youth including the Invitation to Change approach.
