The Corporate Partnership Manager (CPM) plays a unique role for the Development Department of Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center. They will be a key member of a three-person team focused on growing corporate partnerships, but will also work will all Development team members and across the organization with other departments. The CPM will fully managing our robust Corporate Volunteer Program, manage specific fundraising initiatives related to events, and manage all Department expense budgets. The CPM will report to the Senior Development Officer, Corporate Relations & Events.


Corporate Volunteer Program Management (60%)

  • Manage all communications with volunteer groups, including intake and answering questions, scheduling, and relationship management
  • Keep the volunteer schedule in coordination with the island maintenance staff, Programs Department and Volunteer Program Coordinator (VPC)
  • Manage a small portfolio of corporate donors, specifically those engaged with the CVP, to develop deeper partnerships
  • Proactively reach out to new and repeat corporations to maximize volunteer days
  • Attend all volunteer days (greet groups, coordinating with VPC on work assignments, provide tours, and serve as an ambassador for Thompson Island)
  • Analyze program performance, constantly working to improve the volunteer experience
  • Manage all vendor relationships associated with volunteer program, including securing in-kind donations
  • Execute and manage a process of capturing information of and cultivating all volunteers through a pipeline to determine further engagement and/or support for the organization both through volunteerism, philanthropy, OBP and for profit events
  • Responsible for converting a certain percentage of volunteers into donors on an annual basis
  • Responsible for identifying and managing the cultivation process of any executive-level volunteer that presents a possibility of a higher level of involvement with the organization and involving the right level of management and senior management in the process
  • Execute and manage a stewardship program for island volunteers that increases their exposure to and celebrates their commitment to the island
  • Manage a small portfolio of corporate donors, specifically those engaged with the CVP, to develop deeper partnerships

Development Event and Fundraising Support, specifically Evening Expedition Gala and 4k Trail Run (30%)

  • Refine, execute, and manage a comprehensive peer-to-peer fundraising effort for the 4k trail run with a pre-determined minimum fundraising goal
  • Coordinate event support volunteers for both the Gala and 4k Trail Run
  • Attend all 4k Trail Run Committee meetings to provide peer-to-peer updates and engage the committee in supporting the campaign
  • Other tasks as assigned by SDO related to events and fundraising

Manage all Development Budgets & Provide Development Support (10%)

  • Providing insight during budgeting process of expected costs
  • Process all invoices and reconcile Development & Fundraising Events Budgets with Finance Department
  • Maintain a vigilance in identifying and soliciting any and all vendors for in-kind support to reduce expenses for any and all efforts that are executed by this role
  • Support data entry and data cleanup projects
  • In-house mailings of varying sizes, including ordering supplies for projects
  • Provide administrative support to the department as needed


This position reports to the Senior Development Officer, Corporations and Events and works alongside a peer group of 4 other managers within the Development department.


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 3 year of work experience related to the non-profit industry and/or volunteer management
  • Fundraising experience is desired
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Some experience with public speaking is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, and meet all deadlines
  • Excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with CRM databases, specifically Raiser’s Edge
  • Valid Drivers License and ability to operate a vehicle


This is a full-time position based out of Thompson Island’s mainland office in Boston’s Seaport District, including weekly trips to Thompson Island during the height of the operating season. Some night and weekend work required.


Position requires regular 25-30 minute ferry trips and ability to traverse varying terrains of Thompson Island. Some of the work requires managing teams on light landscaping projects, to include being outdoors in varying weather conditions. Candidate must be able to lift and carry at least 35lbs.
