Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS), is seeking a Human Resources Generalist (HRG) who provide generalist support to the human resources function supporting the overall mission of LIRS. The position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: onboarding, recruitment, HRIS/Payroll, benefits administration, compensation, employee relations, and compliance with employment law. In addition, the HRG will partner with members of the HR team on a variety of projects.


Responsibilities:


  • Contributes to the mission of Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service by focusing on acquiring the best candidates for employment from traditional and unexpected sources, and working with hiring managers to coordinate and facilitate all functions related to recruitment, hiring, onboarding and retention.
  • Provides administration of all benefit plans including ensuring bills and information are accurate, answering questions from staff, open enrollment processing, etc.
  • Counsels managers and staff on employee relations issues. Escalating when appropriate. 
  • Provides training to managers and staff on a variety of topics including HR laws, performance review systems, etc.

·      Prepares reports and statistics that will help human resources continuously monitor and, when necessary, improve HR practices.

·      Plan and executes employee events including a holiday party, picnic, service awards, breakfasts, trainings, etc.

·      Conducts exit interviews with staff and works with the VPHR in analyzing information received to develop retention strategies.

·      Provides oversite for the management of HRISs to include: applicant tracking systems (ATS), payroll/timekeeping, and related vendor relationships. Serves as back-up for data entry in HRIS.

  • Is cross-trained and cross-trains with human resources (HR) colleagues on other HR processes, programs and functions in order to contribute as a Generalist for the department. Works cooperatively with other HR staff members in order to support other HR functions as needed.
  • Other human resources functions as required.

Working Relationships

·      Internal: Daily contact with management and staff to respond to and provide appropriate human resources services.

·      External: Daily contact with non-staff individuals such as job candidates, vendor representatives, human resources consultants, college/university personnel, etc.


Supervisory Responsibility

·      Some general oversite of HR Coordinator.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Psychology or related field. PHR certification or equivalent qualification in HR preferred.
  • 3-5 years of progressive human resources experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Word, Excel, Power Point and experience using an HRIS and ATS.
  • Attention to detail and follow-through required.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws, recruitment and benefits.
  • Excellent analytic, oral and written communication skills required, as well as the capacity to handle confidential information with discretion and sensitivity.
  • Ability to innovate and implement new HR initiatives.
  • A deep appreciation and understanding of how a diverse workforce contributes to the vitality and strength of an organization, and how HR can contribute to creating and sustaining a diverse workforce.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact professionally with culturally and linguistically diverse staff, clients, consultants and applicants. Skilled insight into potential candidates’ abilities, motivations and fit.
  • Proven ability to assess priorities and manage a variety of complex activities simultaneously and professionally.
  • Exceptional time management and quality control skills that ensure accurate and timely delivery of work products.
  • Alignment with and support of LIRS’s core values.
