JOB TITLE: Marketing-Communications Manager (F/T)

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

LOCATION: Valhalla, NY

Organization: The mission of the Children’s Environmental Literacy Foundation’s (CELF) is to make sustainability education an integral part of every school’s curricula and culture, from kindergarten through high school. Our approach is comprehensive, engaging students, teachers and administrators, parents and communities through professional development, consulting services, and experiential hands-on learning. CELF is a small non-profit led by a team of highly collaborative, dedicated professionals. Growing demand for environmental subject matter and systems-based learning has opened new opportunities for CELF to expand and innovate. CELF is looking for a creative and strategic marketing professional to tell its story to stakeholders across education and philanthropic communities. This position is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team in a rapidly evolving field addressing some of the most pressing issues of our times.

Summary: CELF is seeking a Marketing-Communications Manager who has 5+ years of relevant experience, ideally as part of a multi-disciplinary integrated marketing team within a fast-growing nonprofit or start-up, or relevant ESG or educational venture. This resourceful and well-organized self-starter will be responsible for executing an integrated strategic communications plan that consistently articulates CELF’s story and mission through digital and printed materials that enhance the organization’s position as a leader in education for sustainability.

Detailed Description: Reporting to the Executive Director, the Marketing-Communications Manager will be responsible for translating CELF’s mission and capabilities into exciting, relevant messages and disseminating them to the right audiences through targeted distribution channels. The Manager will set and consistently articulate CELF’s mission across all communications: email, website, social media, collateral and public relations. He or she will ensure that CELF is viewed as the primary source, disseminator, and conduit of information within its diverse network and constituent base.

Specific Requirements and Responsibilities:

  • Overall: Refine and implement the organization’s strategic communications plan, manage the overall brand and messaging, and execute across relevant channels, both online and in print
  • Community building: Cultivate the CELF community across the main social platforms, networking events, and conferences
  • Direct marketing: Develop effective targeted communications to recruit program participants (educators and administrators) and to support of annual fund-raising objectives
  • Website: Manage web content on an ongoing basis to integrate cross-platform systems
  •  Social Media: Manage all CELF accounts including Facebook, Twitter & Instagram, follow and amplify relevant external activity
  • Electronic and print collateral: Write and oversee production of written promotional materials including program announcements, a digital e-newsletter, fundraising materials, program collateral and press releases
  • Database management: Serve as key staff person for the maintenance of the CRM database with responsibility for all contacts, including program participants, prospective participants, partners, donors and prospective donors
  • Program communications: Liaise with current and past teacher and administrative participants to track progress, obtain quotes and case studies
  • Thought leadership and PR: Improve awareness of CELF by pursuing opportunities to showcase its accomplishments and leadership in news articles and op-eds, speaking engagements and conference presentations
  • Teamwork: Bring high energy, maturity and leadership and show a sincere commitment to working collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, contractors, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters
  • Initiative: Be a self-starter, able to work independently, anticipate needs and be entrepreneurial; enjoy creating and implementing new initiatives

Qualifications:

  • The position requires a motivated professional with:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • 5+ years prior experience in communications, marketing, and/or public relations
  • Website editing experience and familiarity relevant software and tools
  • Fluency in key social media platforms, MS Office, Google suite, email marketing and
  • Dropbox
  • Environmental and/or K-12 education background a plus
  • Experience with CRM database management a plus
  • Graphic design skills and a “good eye” for presentation, a plus
  • Photography and/or videography skills a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Passion for making a difference
  • Hours: Full time; flexible hours, some hours can be remote.
  • Salary: Commensurate with skills and experience.
