Bilingual Special Victims Advocate (Spanish-speaking)

Center for Safety & Change is currently seeking a full-time, 35-hours per week, Bilingual Special Victims Advocate to work in the agency’s Special Victims Center. The successful candidate will work with victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. This non-exempt position includes some evening and weekend shifts and requires the ability to work flexible hours when needed. It also requires some evening and weekend on-call coverage and fluency in Spanish. The Bilingual Special Victims Advocate reports to the Program Manager of Sexual Trauma & Comprehensive Crime Victims Services.

Specific responsibilities include,m but are not limited to:

  • Respond to hotline calls and referrals for victims of child sex abuse, child abuse, rape, domestic violence, stalking and human trafficking.
  • Respond to hotline calls from family and friends of victims.
  • Provide advocacy, information and referrals, and accompaniment to hospital, D.A.’s Office, courts and social service agencies.
  • Provide crisis intervention and individual and group counseling.
  • Assist victims/survivors in accessing and completing Office of Victims Services (OVS) crime victim compensation applications.
  • Promote community awareness of Center for Safety & Change services.
  • Attend staff meetings, direct service trainings and supervision.
  •  Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Position Requirements:

  • Spanish fluency (speaking, reading and writing) required
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, crisis-oriented environment: assess priorities, take initiative, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system and courts a plus
  • A willingness to work flexible hours, including some early mornings, some evenings and weekends
  • Must agree to be placed on the on-call rotation during off-hours, in order to respond to clients’ needs
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Sociology or related field; or 2+ years of experience within the criminal justice system/ working with victims of crime in a multidisciplinary setting preferred
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must possess the ability to communicate with staff and clients. Some occasional lifting may be required (please speak with Human Resources to request accommodations).
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable, insured transportation a must.
