English Language Learners represent nearly 10% of the US public school population. Across the

US, immigrant ELLs graduate at among the lowest rates and dropout at among the highest of all

student subgroups. Internationals Network for Public Schools ​is the only school development

and support organization that specifically addresses the educational needs of this population.

Our mission is to provide quality education for recently arrived immigrants by growing and

sustaining a strong national network of innovative public secondary schools, while

broadening our impact by sharing proven best practices and influencing policy for English

Language Learners (ELLs) nationally. ​We partner with public schools, districts, community

organizations, and others to design, open and support schools and provide professional

development and resources to educators.

What You’ll Do:

We know that for secondary schools to meet the needs of immigrant ELLs, they must have

instruction, school structures and professional development systems for teachers to be effective

and implement solid, research-based best-practices that support the academic, linguistic and

social emotional development of students. As Instructional Coach, ​you’ll play a key role in the

development of a new program in Richmond, California​, by working weekly with teachers. You

will also work with school leaders to strengthen teachers’ capacity to use key elements of the

Internationals Approach to ELL education to foster higher levels of achievement for their

English Language Learners. As Instructional Coach, ​you will also facilitate school-based and

network-wide professional development workshops to support new and experienced teachers.

Your Specific responsibilities include:

● Providing real-time group and individualized professional development and

classroom coaching and high quality feedback to classroom teachers in all subject

areas on interdisciplinary teaching teams responsible for heterogeneous student


● Supporting teachers in integrating English and native language development in

content instruction using collaborative experiential projects across the curriculum;

● Employing a repertoire of coaching strategies for adult learners including real-time,

side-by-side classroom coaching, co-planning, analysis of student work, and observation

and feedback that builds on teachers’ strengths and models student learning;

● Collaborate in design and delivery of professional development;

● Participate in periodic peer inquiry discussions with other Internationals


● Document work, deliver regular reporting, and participate in scheduled

check-in and debrief conversations

What you bring:

Internationals Network is looking for committed, experienced educators with diverse

backgrounds and experiences who are inspired by our mission and are highly motivated to

improve educational programs and services for immigrant English Language Learners. Spanish

language ability is a plus.

We expect the Instructional Coach to:

● Demonstrate a solid instructional background, with minimum 3 years of successful

6-8 or 9-12 classroom teaching experience, preferably with ELLs and diverse student


● Have a strong understanding of engaging, rigorous, project-based instruction that

fosters both language development and academic content;

● Demonstrate skill at coaching or mentoring adult learners;

● Be committed to collaboration, with strong interpersonal skills and ability to build

relationships on behalf of the organization; and to work collaboratively with a variety

of staff members;

● Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to address issues as they arise;

● Capacity for developing and leading workshops for educators;

● Be a flexible problem solver and effective communicator, both orally and in writing;

● A sense of humor.


Master’s Degree in education. Teaching experience.
