We help at every life stage, providing critical services that lift people out of poverty, as well as innovative programming that educates and inspires our community members. The Marks JCH of Bensonhurst is a Jewish community center with fitness programs, children’s, youth, family, and cultural programs. The Marks JCH is also a full-scale human service agency, providing social services, older adult services, resettlement support, job placement, and additional resources. Marks JCH prides itself on its 360 degree holistic service model, providing services for the whole family, meeting the needs of low- and moderate-income New Yorkers, specializing in helping refugees and immigrants.
Position Summary: The Marks JCH of Bensonhurst is seeking an experienced professional for this central role, reflecting the J’s commitment to an engaged, informed, and supported workforce, which provides top level service for the community and clients it serves. Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, he/she will oversee the human resources function. The Director will be an advocate for employees and management, considering and balancing the needs of both in the advancement of the organization’s strategic goals.
The ideal candidate is a quick learner with the ability to communicate and listen effectively. Must be detail-oriented, creative, and efficient with proven ability to work independently and as part of a team. The role requires a strong communicator and a keen observer of workplace culture and employee engagement with the ability to identify opportunities for improvement and be influential in his/her recommendations. He/she will be committed to the support of positive employee relations in service to a workforce of creative and talented employees who are proud to be part of the community hub that is the Marks JCH in South Brooklyn.
This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary commensurate with experience; generous benefits package.
a. The Director of Administration leads and oversees the organization’s human resources function with respect to their diverse workforce inclusive of management and staff who are part of the DC1707 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
b. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of all federal, state, and local laws pertaining to employment and ensures organizational compliance. Provides guidance and counsel on their interpretation and implementation, including but not limited to EEO, ADA, FMLA, and FLSA. Consults with legal counsel as appropriate.
c. Manages the employee onboarding process.
d. In conjunction with others in the organization, establishes and maintains HR/employee records.
e. Researches, plans, develops, implements, communicates, and evaluates policies, best practices, guidelines, and initiatives to support the organization’s strategic goals. Makes recommendations to executive management for improvement and updating of the same. Manages the maintenance of the employee handbook.
f. Identifies needs and opportunities for employee training and development. Recommends, plans, implements, and evaluates initiatives that enhance employee performance, support individual employee growth, and recognize accomplishments.
g. Coordinates and conducts employee events, meetings, and other gatherings as needed.
h. Work in conjunction with the Finance Department to ensure that all contractual changes, PTO and benefit elections are accurately implemented during bi-weekly payroll processing.
a. Be a lead on managing the agency’s facility management software GoFmx.
b. Centralized contact for building related issues that are to be channeled to the correct department to be addressed.
c. Manage the preparation and administration of all purchase order contracts, subcontracts, lease/rental agreements and consultant contracts for equipment, service, repairs, utilities and rehab work.
d. Manage all building licenses and permits and ensure that all are up to date.
e. One of the Emergency responsiveness team members.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
• 3 + years of progressively responsible and broad experience in human resources, including current best practices. Experience working in a non-profit and/or community center is a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in a related field or HR certification preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong employee relations and dispute resolution skills.
· Detail oriented, Resourceful, organized, and “hands-on”.
· Knowledgeable and up-to-date on relevant federal, state, and local employment laws and specific experience ensuring their compliance.
• Demonstrated ability to perform needs analysis and create strategies and initiatives relating to retention, employee engagement, and employee development.
• Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships across the organization and gain trust and respect of management and employees.
• Advanced computer skills using MS Office, Word, Excel, Access, importing/exporting data to/from applications, and demonstrated ability to learn new systems.
• Russian-speaking preferred.
