Job Description

The Auxiliary Programs Director is an energetic, collaborative leader with experience in developing and delivering high quality programming for children in addition to HMS’s school day. will oversee all aspects of the following programs at High Meadow School:

  • The HMS Before-care program, which runs from 7:45 - 9:00 AM Monday through Friday,
  • The HMS Aftercare program, which runs from 3:00 - 5:00 Monday through Friday,
  • The HMS On the Meadow Summer Camp, a 6-week day camp experience that averages enrollment of 175 children from the surrounding area of the school  each year.
  • Co-coordinator of HMS Upper School Electives Program in partnership with the Upper School Division Head

Program Development

  • Collaborate with school leadership to develop a strategic vision for auxiliary programming that aligns with the school’s mission and philosophy.
  • Reenvision, relaunch, and oversee High Meadow School’s before and aftercare programs.
  • Collaborate with the Upper School Division Head to review and enhance the upper school electives program.  
  • Survey families and students to gauge needs and develop programming based on the needs and interests of the community. 
  • Annually seek and analyze input from participants and staff regarding the quality of their program experience.
  • Seek to identify partnerships that may enhance auxiliary program potential.
  • Develop disciplinary policies for all auxiliary programming that are in line with the school’s beliefs about children and learning.

 Program Management

  • Oversee Before- and After-care programs on a daily basis.
  • Serve as HMS Camp Director for On the Meadow camp.
  • Establish routines, provide positive guidance, and enforce policies and procedures, including disciplinary policies, in accordance with the school’s mission during auxiliary programming hours. 
  • Recruit and oversee the enrollment of students to auxiliary programs and ensure that all necessary documents are received before the student attends the program. 
  • Contract with outside providers for On the Meadow summer camp.
  • Develop health and safety protocols for all auxiliary programming that are in compliance with state and federal regulations and align with the health and safety plan for the school.
  • Supervise members of the HMS health department during summer camp programming and collaborates with the Director of Operations over health and safety matters during school year programming. 
  • Coordinate CPR, First Aid, AED, and other health-related training for auxiliary programming staff.
  • Work closely with the HMS Director of Operations and Director of Buildings and Grounds to make comprehensive plans for auxiliary programming space usage.
  • Support The Upper School Division Head with elective scheduling, staff recruitment, and hiring.

HR

  • Hire and supervise staff for all auxiliary programs.
  • Ensure that the hiring process and protocols are in line with the hiring process and protocols of the school, including writing and posting job descriptions, conducting interviews, completing reference checks, offering contracts, and ensuring that staff have necessary background checks and fingerprint clearance in order to begin work on campus.
  • Conduct staff orientations to ensure that all staff understand the mission, vision, policies, and protocols of the school and the program.
  • Dismiss staff in the event that conduct is unsafe, unprofessional, or does not align to the HMS mission and beliefs about children.

Financial Management

  • Work with the HMS Assistant Director of finance to
  • develop the budget for auxiliary programming and ensure that all auxiliary programs are fiscally sound,
  • create staff contracts and pay scale,
  • submit payroll information and time sheets of auxiliary programming staff for processing,
  • coordinate registration, billing, and the collection of payments of participants,
  • select vendors, create contracts, and order supplies for auxiliary programs, and
  • monitor revenue and expenses of programming on a monthly basis
  • Work with the Head of School and the Finance Department to analyze profitability of all auxiliary programs.

Marketing and Communications

  • In conjunction with the Head of School, develop a comprehensive plan for marketing and communications for auxiliary programs.
  • Manage marketing initiatives for the promotion of auxiliary programs, including mailers, brochures, open houses, camp fairs, and advertisements.
  • Oversee communications staff on the management of an effective and credible internet presence for auxiliary programming, including website, social media, and digital marketing.
  • Set parameters and expectations for staff communications with families and community during auxiliary programming hours.
  • Write weekly program updates for families during summer camp and monthly program updates for before- and after-care across the school year.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Auxiliary Programming Staff, including before and aftercare teachers, electives teachers, and all summer camp staff

Work Details

  • This is a full-time, 12-month position.
  • This position functions onsite 5 days a week with flexible hours both inside and outside of the school day.
  • The physical demands of this job include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, crouching, reaching overhead and/or climbing ramps or stairs.
  • The job is performed in a generally hazard free environment.

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of summer camp leadership or teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience working in environments with children ages 2-14.
  • Commitment High Meadow School’s mission, core beliefs, and stance towards Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • CPR/AED and first aid training preferred.
  • Experience in hiring, training and managing a diverse staff team.
  • Experience with events and program budgeting and management.
  • Must have an entrepreneurial spirit and be able to envision a program and bring it to fruition.
  • Systems thinker with a strong attention to detail for programming, health, and safety.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate well with all stakeholders, including children, families, and staff.
  • Commitment to promoting and maintaining a collaborative work environment with inclusive decision-making processes.
  • Able to genuinely project the High Meadow School image and culture by being genuinely friendly, deeply hospitable, showing great care, and taking pride in providing exceptional programming.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and judgment regarding privileged information.
