Job Summary:

The Human Resource (HR) Manager will perform routine HR functions including hiring and interviewing staff, administering pay, benefits, and leave, honoring the staff union contract, fostering dialogue around how to make the organization a better place to work and implementing company policies and practices. This person should be committed to cultivating professional environments rooted in DEI and anti-oppression. The role will also assist with employee relations, labor relations and administration of employee engagement in accordance with the organization's mission, values and goals. This role can be based in either Columbus or Youngstown and reports directly to the Director of Operations. 

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and onboards new staff in the Organization.
  • Be responsible for the daily workflow of the department.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations. 
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Continuously improve and manage the onboarding process, working with supervisors to ensure the 90 days and 6-month plan, and review the process that sets up new hires for success.
  • Maintains satisfactory labor-management relations through a variety of techniques such as scheduling and attending quarterly meetings.
  • Participates in collective bargaining negotiations and ensures compliance with collective bargaining agreements.
  • Investigates problems such as working conditions, disciplinary actions, and employee and applicant appeals and grievances. Provides guidance and recommendations for problem resolution to departmental officials and individuals.
  • Provides support and guidance to management, and other staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.
  • Manages the talent acquisition process, which may include recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants, particularly for managerial, exempt, and professional roles; collaborates with Organizational directors/managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • In partnership with the Executive Team, lead the organization’s efforts to ensure that diversity, equity, and inclusiveness (DEI) are fully integrated into organizational culture, values, policies, and procedures.

  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, ADP, and related software.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of human resource management experience preferred, with labor relations experience in a union environment.
  • Masters and/or SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP highly desired.

Classification: Ohio Organizing Collaborative recognizes a staff bargaining unit with the Ohio Organizing Collaborative Staff Union/UE 719. This position is not included in the Ohio Organizing Colloborative's bargaining unit.

Position Details The HR Manager is a full-time salaried position. Benefits include excellent health/dental insurance, vacation, and retirement match. The Manager must possess a cell phone, an Ohio driver’s license and have access to a reliable automobile. In-state travel is required. Some weekend and evening hours will be required. Work-related expenses are reimbursed according to policy.  Physical requirements include frequent standing, walking, ability to sit in meetings and lift moderate weight for supplies. 

Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000.
