Description

BECA seeks a qualified Program Manager for the 2018 - 2019 school year in Honduras.

The Program Manager (PM) is an in-country team member who leads BECA's volunteer-driven education program. The PM will move between BECA’s three bilingual school locations in Cortés and Santa Barbara: Santa Monica Bilingual School, San Jeronimo Bilingual School, and Amigos de Jesus. This person is responsible for leading the team of volunteers in team building and cultural and community engagement. The PM has a unique opportunity to facilitate the collaboration between a service-minded group of individuals and the Honduran communities in which they operate. The highlight of this job is the "genuine" nature of the experience: seeing our students succeed in the classroom, getting to know students and their families, and immersing one’s self in Honduran culture.

REQUIRED DUTIES:

  • Ensuring that volunteers perform their duties in a goal-oriented, culturally sensitive way and that they act in a way that is consistent with the BECA mission
  • Overseeing and coaching the Instructional Lead Teachers to provide meaningful support and mentorship to our classroom teachers
  • Maintaining regular communication with BECA’s volunteer teachers and their School Administrators in order to support their individual and professional growth
  • Communicating regularly with the In-Country Director to ensure needed supports are in place and to monitor the condition and quality of BECA programs
  • Organizing the weekly Culture in Context course
  • Overseeing BECA’s on-the-ground communications through social media accounts, blogs, photos, and video footage
  • Overseeing on-site finances for the BECA program
  • Planning and organizing meaningful team bonding trips that move the team forward professionally and personally
  • Coordinating mid-year orientation, training, and observations for incoming volunteers
  • Working with current 9th grade students to discuss options after graduation, plan parent meetings, and organize school visits to local high schools
  • Running the Continuing English Program for BECA's graduates students
  • Organizing transportation to events for our volunteers and BECA visitors
  • Arranging housing logistics, maintenance and repairs
  • Participating in organization-wide planning and development
  • Supporting volunteers through covering classes as needed, in coordination with the School Administrators, when volunteers are absent due to illness or personal reasons

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A commitment to BECA’s mission and a dedication to social justice
  • No fewer than 2 years experience in nonprofit management and/or education
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills (experience living in Latin America is preferred)
  • Ability to manage a large team and solve problems in collaboration with In-Country Director and School Administrators
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
