Director, Multilingual Learner Programs

The National Director of Multilingual Learner Programs, is an essential role which will allow Rocketship Public Schools to more deeply invest in our programming and achievement of multilingual learners. The National Director of Multilingual Learner Programs will play a critical role in designing curriculum and instructional practices to more effectively meet the needs of multilingual learners, create equitable learning experiences, and support high family engagement. This individual will provide policies, tools, resources, training and support to school leaders across all regions. 

This role will report to the Sr. Director of Humanities and will manage the Manager of Los Dichos. 

Essential Functions:

  • Curriculum and Instruction: Lead vision and curriculum design for multilingual learners 
  • Co-design resources to support integrated English language development (ELD) into content curriculum, including both Humanities and STEM. 
  • Design designated ELD units that are grounded in content instruction and aligned to the thematic unit and core lesson. 
  • Launch Multilingual Learner Resource Hub to provide access to resources, initiatives, and exemplar videos.
  • Build capacity of a Multilingual Learner team to develop equitable resources and implement programs (including but not limited to monthly/bi-weekly collaboration, coplanning, instructional walkthroughs, or video analysis).

  • Training and Professional Development: Lead vision and design of professional development experiences, highlighting best practices in teaching multilingual learners 
  • Create summer and ongoing teacher training program based on evidence-based best practices to support multilingual learn growth and achievement 
  • Curate exemplar video library for ELD to support teacher development
  • Design professional development specific to school based role in EL Programs
  • Coordinate external training opportunities, including Be GLAD certification

  • Parent Partnerships: Lead vision for engaging families of multilingual learners 
  • Coordinate with Office Managers to ensure that parent notification letters are sent within the first 30 days. 
  • Manage and coordinate the Los Dichos program, which amplifies diverse home cultures and language through parent led experiences. 
  • Provide equitable support to schools, to ensure that 80% of families agree/strongly agree with “EL specific” questions on Parent Survey
  • Codify and share best practices for communication progress during Parent Teacher Conferences
  • Develop ELAC Agendas and Meeting Materials to increase advocacy and leadership of parents.

  • Program Design, Monitoring, and Evaluation: Lead the vision and strategic plan for multilingual learners 
  • In collaboration with stakeholders, set the vision and strategic plan for multilingual learner program
  • Establish goals and monitor progress towards key metrics to ensure that students are making progress toward language proficiency and achievement of EL, through collaboration with the Analytics team. 
  • Manage the data implementation, workflows, user access on the ELLevation platform 
  • Leads working group to monitor Title III funding and compliant spending. 
  • Support coordination of ELPAC/ACCESS testing to ensure that maximum completion and effective testing experience.

  • Program Management: Lead and monitor all compliance requirements in all regions 
  • Monitor federal, state, local policy and compliance requirements in all regions.
  • Develop systems and provide equitable support to ensure that all schools and regions implement a compliant multilingual learner program. 
  • Conduct internal audits to monitor completion of compliance items or resolution of findings. 
  • Provide training and timely communicate with key stakeholders DoS/School Leaders on instructional and compliance related items.
  • Work with the Student Information Systems (SIS) team and Analytics team to ensure that key language development milestones are accurately executed including but not limited to: screening, identification, reclassification, and monitoring of emerging bilingual students.


  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience. May include K-12 teaching, school leadership and/or curriculum design serving multilingual learner populations
  • 2+ years of management experience 
  • Strong understanding of English language development, 
  • Passion for Rocketship mission and committment to creating an anti-racist, equitable, and inclusive workplace
  • Experience collaborating and influencing across multiple geographic regions and leadership roles
  • Exceptional professionalism and judgement and ability to navigate conflict and manage confidential information
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to turn policies and ideas into clear communication in multiple formats.
  • Experience designing and implementing policies with a focus on equity and transparency
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented, organized, and resourceful.
  • Team-player attitude and strong customer-service orientation. Skill at communicating respectfully and empathetically with staff.
  • Skilled at building strong and trusting working relationships with people in both senior- and junior-level roles.
  • Strong PC-based computer skills, including the ability to use spreadsheets and the Google Suite.
