PS10 Extended Day is looking for part-time Group Leaders for our in-person extended day programs, for a PreK and for an Elementary School. We are looking for energetic, and enthusiastic staff who are dedicated to the growth and development of children to join our unique enrichment-based high-quality program. PS10 Extended Day employees have opportunities for raises and promotions within the program. For Example, our two Directors started with the company as Group Leaders.

The ideal candidate would be a proactive problem-solver. A positive, caring, and fun attitude combined with creativity, innovation, and passion for working with children is essential. Group Leaders are expected to help create an environment that encourages children's creative thinking, verbal communication, independent exploration, self-confidence, self-awareness, and well-being. Extended Day prides itself in having an open communication between directors & staff. We will work together to make you and this program the best we can be!

Dates: September 6, 2021 – June 24, 2022

Schedule: Monday-Friday, must be available between 2:30-5:00/6:00 pm.

General Duties:

  • Under the guidance of the Director, assist with the implementation of the PS 10 Extended Day program to ensure a high level of program quality.
  • Establish and maintain a positive relationship with all program participants. Interact professionally and appropriately with parents, teachers, school and Extended Day staff.
  • Supervise groups of children in activities and trips, prioritizing safety, according to the PS 10 safety policy. Participate and encourage positive participation of all students.
  • Plan and lead organized activities for students ranging from art projects, group games, and physical activities to name a few.
  • As needed, differentiate lessons and activities so they are appropriate to students with various abilities.
  • Instruct students on the safe and proper use of supplies and equipment.
  • Implement positive discipline and classroom management techniques while following Ps10 Extended Day policies and procedures.
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings and trainings, as well as special events such as performances and fund-raisers. Staff will be paid for their time attending these events which will be held outside of work hours.
  • Follow PS 10 Extended Day policies and procedures including the discipline code.
  • Assist Teaching Artists in all ways necessary to help them run their class efficiently.
  • Update the Program Director or supervisor of any issues.
  • Be responsible for notating incidents and injuries that occur with any child in their care and maintain adequate supplies in first aid and safety kits.
  • Prepare attendance reports and other reports as required.
  • Help maintain a safe, clean program site by participating in the cleaning and maintenance of our facilities and equipment.
  • All other pertaining duties as indicated by the Director or Program Manager.


Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:

  • Minimum H.S. diploma/GED.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with youth from 5 to 11 years old.
  • Willingness to take initial and monthly background checks.
  • Ability to provide at least 2 professional work references from supervisors.
  • Ability to arrive early, or on time, properly prepared for work.
  • Ability to care about, understand, listen to, nurture, support, and accept all children.
  • Must be a team player with the ability to work toward the shared goal of maintaining the high standards of the PS10 Extended Days program.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive and respectful relationships with families, students and co-workers of diverse backgrounds and identities.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to articulate ideas and knowledge clearly.
  • Willingness to hear feedback to improve performance and outcomes.
  • Must possess strong classroom management skills.
  • Able to develop lesson plans, teaching and designing curricula is a strong plus.
  • If hired, The PS10 PTA Extended Day requires all potential employees to provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination unless exempt due to health or religious reasons. If exempt, the employee must provide proof of a negative covid-19 test weekly.

Additional advantages:

  • Valid CPR/AED Pro certification through recognized accrediting body preferred.
  • Valid First Aid/RTE certification through recognized accrediting body preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish a plus.

Covid-19 Considerations: All employees must be vaccinated for Covid unless they have Medical and/or Religious Exemptions. Fully vaccinated employees must present a negative Covid-19 test every three weeks. Non- fully vaccinated employees must present a negative Covid-19 once a week. Employees will receive daily Covid-19 screening and temperature checks when they arrive for work.

PS 10 Extended Day is a parent created, PTA overseen low-cost high-quality enrichment-based afterschool program dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing afterschool environment for the diverse community of PS10 Elementary School. We believe an exposure to a wide range of activities and disciplines help children discover their interests & passions early on, and develop self-esteem & confidence while learning to be curious and proactive learners.
