Amigos de las Américas (AMIGOS) is a leader in international youth development, creating a world in which young people realize their full potential as leaders and global citizens. We provide extraordinary opportunities for youth to design and lead projects in collaboration with US and Latin American peers and partner organizations across the Americas. Our strong partner network, built over 50 years, enables authentic engagements in communities across the region.

POSITION SUMMARY:

AMIGOS is looking for Project Supervisors for a short-term cultural immersion program for young people entering 9th and 10th grade. More information about the program can be found here. The Project Supervisor is the first level of the Latin American Summer Leadership Team. The young people who are selected to participate as AMIGOS Project Supervisors receive intensive training and develop international leadership skills that are unparalleled. It is a very unique, challenging, and rewarding experience.

After an initial training, Project Supervisors are assigned one community per block of volunteers. Project Supervisors conduct an initial “community survey” in which they spend one-two nights in each of their communities, screen and train host families, establish a relationship with local community leaders & youth, and secure volunteer food, housing, set up a community project and prepare extracurricular activities. The project supervisors facilitate volunteer training, and then provide emotional and logistical support throughout the summer.  On each block, each supervisor will directly oversee up to 9 volunteers in a community and are regularly with the entire group of volunteers. Project Supervisors are always expected to be with volunteers throughout the duration of the program and travel with them, complete paperwork and reporting, run errands, lead activities and purchase supplies as needed. The Project Supervisor supports volunteers and staff in problem-solving, responds to health and safety needs, and ensures volunteers submit complete paperwork.

This is a very challenging position and requires Project Supervisors to be very independent as well as work as part of a team. It requires high levels of self-awareness, a positive attitude, and enthusiasm to lead a group of young volunteers. Project Supervisors must be willing to work in rural, often very under resourced areas, and maintain a positive attitude and an appreciation for the host families and communities, while prioritizing volunteer health and safety.
