Senior Technical Advisor for Housing

Monitors and analyzes national trends within the Housing program area; conducts analytical research; represents The Salvation Army at various coalitions, councils and working groups: prepares “briefing reports”; serves as advocate for Housing area: monitors and analyzes internal capacity and trends; serves as a Housing program resource to the field; serves as convener and facilitator of conference calls; serves as an on-site peer reviewer; serves as an approved Salvation Army spokesperson on matters relating to housing; monitors and analyzes national public and private funding opportunities; serves as the National Liaison to Habitat for Humanity; attends national conferences within the Housing area; conducts and participates in discussions, lectures, seminars, and workshops as requested; serves as a member of planning committees; provides oversight of assigned volunteers and interns. Light travel 5% of time.

Serves as advocate for housing needs: drafts information and prepares collateral materials for distribution to members of Congress; arranges and attends “face-to-face” meetings with members of Congress and congressional staff; attends Congressional briefings; creates and develops “awareness campaigns” advocacy materials and special events to educate and empower Salvation Army personnel; identifies best practices and relays that information to the field.

Education and Experience:

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Social Work, or related fields. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Human Services, Communications, Public Policy or related fields and three to four years’ experience working in the field of Humanitarian Relief, Social Services, or Program Development arena.

Demonstrated ability to represent a national organization to the government, peer agencies, and coalitions consistent with TSA’s mission. Demonstrated ability to lead meetings. Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in the principles and practices of project management and program development. Demonstrated ability to serve as a liaison and advocate. Knowledge of macro-level management and strategic planning. Demonstrated interpersonal and networking skills.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Access, Excel and PowerPoint software.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

Valid driver’s license.
