Description

DOROT, which means “generations” in Hebrew, provides a dynamic partnership of seniors, volunteers,

and professionals dedicated to enhancing the lives of older adults. DOROT’s mission is to alleviate social isolation among the elderly and to help them live independently as valued members of the community. Our wide array of programs – conducted onsite, in the home, and in the community – is designed to help seniors remain engaged, connected, and knowledgeable about the resources they need. Since DOROT’s inception in 1976 we have been a leader in creating innovative programs and engaging older people in meaningful activities. Compassionate care and a commitment to excellence are hallmarks of our programs and staff.

DOROT’s clients range in age from 60 to over 100 with an average age of 83, vary in physical mobility and economic status, and come from diverse backgrounds. We bring generations together in mutually beneficial partnerships, engaging over 7,000 volunteers of all ages each year. DOROT offers programs in our catchment area (the Upper West Side from 59th to 125th Streets, East Side from 14th to 96th Streets, and Westchester County) and also serves seniors throughout New York and more broadly through our teleconference and online programming.

POSITION SUMMARY

DOROT recognizes the value of onsite programming to forge social connections, enhance overall wellbeing, improve health and fitness, and increase opportunities for discussion, storytelling, and the arts. The Director of Onsite and Special Programs will be a catalyst in the development, expansion, and integration of dynamic programming to meet the interests of older adult participants. This portfolio includes our new Sunday and evening programs initiative.

The Director will work collaboratively with DOROT’s senior management team, fellow directors and other colleagues to conceive and implement innovative ideas for program growth and impact. This position demands a diverse skill set in administration, program planning, and supervision as well as direct engagement with older adults.

Overall Responsibilities:

·       Serve as a thought leader and innovator for DOROT, driving and guiding existing and new creative programs.

·       Collaborate with DOROT’s Senior Program Officer for Supportive Services to develop strategies that increase senior connections through greater participation, deeper engagement, and increased variety of programs.

·       Lead, supervise, and inspire a staff team of three to six employees including hiring and training new staff, conducting employee evaluations, and supporting each in meeting goals and achieving results.

·       Manage a $400K+ program budget and ensure expenditures are in line with projections.

·       Provide a milieu of engagement, support, and creativity where older adults can flourish with depth and richness given their vast knowledge and experience.

·       Continually review, update, and integrate protocols to improve onsite programming.

·       Collaborate with other DOROT staff to refer clients and coordinate activities.

·       Develop a work plan for building internal capacity to meet existing programs’ growth goals and for the phased implementation of new initiatives.

·       Cultivate and maintain effective strategic relationships to advance current offerings and create new ones.

·       Partner with DOROT’s Director of Impact and Evaluation to develop program logic models, identify impact measures, and evaluate program outcomes.

·       Oversee the implementation of program grants, monitor their deliverables, and work with the Development team on grant proposals and reporting.

·       Ensure effective systems are in place for timely program monitoring: oversee the collection of participant data and program metrics in DOROT’s client database, review program metrics, prepare internal reports, and utilize data to inform program planning and increase impact.

·       Present the program at local and national conferences.

·       Assist with “hands on” department and/or program responsibilities when needed.

·       Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include:

·       Master’s degree, with a minimum of five years of experience in aging or arts programming, social services, nonprofit management, or other related field.

·       Proven ability to lead a staff team, build individual capacities, and promote excellence.

·       Passion for and demonstrated success in delivering programs and information to groups in wellness and creative formats.

·       Significant knowledge of program models and trends related to wellness and arts programming for older adults.

·       Proven track record in managing multiple high-priority projects simultaneously.

·       Ability to think strategically and lead with good instincts, sound judgement, and entrepreneurial spirit.

·       Competency in and appreciation for data analytics – with the ability to translate information into actionable items.

·       Passion, warmth, and sensitivity for DOROT’s constituents and mission, as well as an

understanding of Jewish values and the community.

·       Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·       Availability to work occasional evening and weekend hours for programs and presentations and approximately six Sundays a year for package deliveries and other activities.

·       Strong proficiency with database/information and management systems and Microsoft Office programs required.
