Description


Purpose: The Provider Services Director is tasked with the strategic visioning and implementing of all licensed child care quality improvement efforts for all current Provider Services programs, including potential growth of new initiatives. They are responsible for the self-managed programs of the Provider Services department which include technical assistance, coaching and training to child care providers under the Early Achievers program (Washington State’s Quality Rating Improvement System), as well as broader support for the child care population through technical support and professional development. They have direct responsibility for the promotion of quality child care in the community and for developing and managing relationships and contracts. The span of this work includes King and Pierce Counties; and the location of this position is to be determined based on pending candidate but will include extensive travel across both counties.

NATURE & SCOPE: The Provider Services Director reports to the Chief Operations Officer. They serve as a member of the expanded executive team providing key program perspective and participating in program decisions at the executive level


They are accountable for:

  • developing agency wide goals, in collaboration with the Program Management Team and Executive Team;
  • developing programs and services for licensed child care providers in a rapidly changing early learning environment;
  • promoting quality early learning for all children;
  • overseeing grants and contracts, ensuring quality service delivery and monitoring program expenditures and deliverable;
  • collaborating on cross-department and cross-program work;
  • representing the agency with local organizations, entities and groups concerned with child care issues.


The Provider Services Director provides overall vision for the Provider Services department and facilitates development of goals and objectives to meet all outcomes established internally and by funders across King and Pierce counties. With the managers under their supervision, they oversee work-plans to carry out the work of all components of the Early Achievers program and community-based professional development.


The Provider Services Director meets regularly with local funders (including local governments, private foundations, etc.) to ensure ongoing satisfaction with agency services and early intervention when challenges occur.


They prepare and/or assist with the development of applications for new and existing funding, and coordinate with CCR’s Fund Development team regularly. The Provider Services Director monitors the overall department budget and contracts related to these programs as well as develops and implements new initiatives undertaken within Provider Services. 


The Provider Services Director represents Child Care Resources with state and community early learning groups and coalitions.


The Provider Services Director works cooperatively with Business Services to ensure grant compliance, maintenance of ongoing day to day operations, including the collection of timesheets and payroll related paperwork, addressing MIS and software issues, addressing personnel issues and needs and insuring that check requests and approval of payment occurs in a timely fashion.


The Provider Services Director supervises 4-7 Program Managers.


The Provider Services Director works cooperatively with the Family Services Director to identify areas of alignment, overlap and opportunities for cross-team collaboration. 


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Minimum requirements include an MA degree in early childhood education, child development, public administration or social/human services and 4 years related job experience; or BA degree and 6 years job experience at the managerial level in a team setting.. At least 2 years of work experience should be in management and administration, preferably in a team setting.

  • Competency with computer software and databases; knowledge of budgets; excellent speaking and writing, training and presentation skills required. 


  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial experience developing programs and services.
  • At least 5 years responsibility for complex budgets and program data reporting.
  • At least 5 years responsibility for supervision and team building.
  • Ability to communicate and actively participate in CCR team meetings and committees and external community groups.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent listening skills with the ability to give and receive feedback.
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience in/understanding of the provision of quality customer service.
  • Knowledge of computer software, especially Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Washington State Driver’s License, automobile insurance, and access to a reliable automobile are required.
