Catholic Volunteer Network, Takoma Park, Md., is in search of a Development and Communications Coordinator to support CVN’s development strategies, partnership cultivation, and communication efforts. This role will be critical in helping raise awareness and support for faith-based service opportunities. We are seeking a well-organized, skilled communicator with a passion for service. Bachelor’s degree required. The ideal candidate will have excellent writing skills, experience with social media and graphic design, and the ability to manage CRM software. A strong commitment to social justice, especially racial justice, is desired.

DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

Job Description


General Function: Coordinate and assist with CVN’s development strategies, partnership cultivation, and communication efforts.  


Specific Duties:


Development Strategies & Grants

  • Support the Executive Director in implementing cultivation and solicitation strategies, approaches, messages, communication instruments and other support systems to facilitate development efforts.  
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, research, write, coordinate, and follow-up on grants and grant reports.       
  • Participate on the Development Committee of the Board of Directors and, with the Executive Director, assist in Board fundraising efforts. 


Donor Relations & Solicitations

  • Manage and coordinate Catholic Volunteer Network’s direct mail appeals and related solicitations, including promotional mailings of RESPONSE.
  • Coordinate CVN’s listing with the national and state branches of the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), including the annual application, advertising, and follow up with donors.
  • Manage effective donor communications, including gift acknowledgements.
  • Reconcile monthly donation record with accountant’s income report.


Communications

  • In collaboration with the Director of Operations, strengthen CVN’s branding and messaging to position the organization for growth in all areas. 
  • Support the Executive Director and other staff with communication efforts that engage donors, partners, and CVN members.   
  • Help conceive of and create a database management and communication strategy that enhances recruitment, fundraising, and other partnership efforts.
  • Oversee CVN’s social media presence, ensuing consistent branding and messaging, as well as a steady and balanced flow of new content. 
  • Design effective and well-branded digital and print materials, including the annual report, newsletters and marketing materials.


Events and Other Programs

  • Help plan and promote CVN events, particularly the annual National Conference on Faith-Based Service. Conduct outreach to potential attendees, sponsors, and partners. 
  • Coordinate annual mission appeals, including initial filing, follow-up and placement/arrangements with the speakers and parishes.


 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or related experience. Professional experience a plus.  
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral. Able to translate staff vision and ideas into written formats.  
  • Strong technology and design skills. Familiarity with WordPress and Adobe Creative Suite is a plus. Database management experience also desired.
  • Experience with a wide variety of social media platforms. 
  • Creative and excited about developing new strategies and systems. Able to learn about organizational needs and industry trends, and provide initiative to develop action plans.      
  • Highly organized.
  • Collaborative and team oriented.
  • Experience with faith-based organizations, the Catholic Church, ecumenical approaches to service and justice, and/or volunteer programs desired.  
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, especially racial justice concerns.
  • Flexible, ability to adjust to changing environments.
