ABOUT NEW FUTURES:

New Futures is a dynamic local nonprofit with a unique approach to fighting inequity: we believe fiercely that shorter-term credentials – associate degrees or professional certifications – are an effective launch point toward rewarding, fulfilling careers. One of the only college success organizations supporting systemically excluded young people on this so-called non-traditional path, New Futures invests in our Scholars with a deliberate combination of scholarships, academic and career advising, access to transformative professional networks, and a lot of heart as they jumpstart careers they love in high-growth fields that lead to financial security and more equitable futures for all.

New Futures was founded in 1999 as a scholarship organization, but we’re so much more than that now, and we’ve evolved significantly since 2016 as a leader in college persistence and workforce development.  Having strengthened our approach so rapidly, with new programming and growing numbers of both Scholars and staff, we need YOU to help us build our capacity, expand our impact, and sustain our growth!

THE POSITION:

As the new Communications and Grants Manager, you’ll expand your skills with a broad base of writing, marketing, and branding initiatives. This is a new, full-time role reporting to the Director of Development and Communications and working closely with the Development Manager, committees, consultants, and vendors. Like all staff of small nonprofits, you will need to be nimble and eager to spearhead new projects! Looking back on your time with our team, you’ll be most proud that you used your expertise in writing and marketing to shine the light on the New Futures Family at a critical time in our growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Communications & Marketing (60%):

  • Help New Futures put our best face forward, managing our digital comms and web presence:
  • Make frequent updates to New Futures’ website
  • Manage relationships with website maintenance vendor (Briteweb) and others
  • Execute multi-faceted email marketing strategy in Mailchimp, including: fundraising appeals, eNewsletters, blogs, event invitations, and other campaigns
  • Upgrade our social media presence and strategy (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
  • Tell the New Futures story compellingly, managing strategy, writing, and design of our communications pieces in partnership with vendors and colleagues, including:
  • Impact Report (annual report)
  • Direct mail pieces and fundraising appeal letters
  • One-Pagers, brochures, and event program booklets
  • Amplify our Scholar and Alumni voices in marketing material in creative and equitable ways
  • Make New Futures a household name with new strategies for thought leadership and media
  • Leverage New Futures brand assets in all relevant organizational materials, supplies, and SWAG

Grantwriting and Grant Management (30%):

  • Write approximately 20% of grant proposals, reports, and other deliverables related to New Futures’ thriving foundations and corporations portfolio.
  • Co-manage a grantseeking consultant team (Elevate). This team is responsible for the remaining 80% of grant deliverables; you will copyedit drafts, share data, and coordinate materials.
  • Coordinate New Futures staff’s and Board’s ongoing efforts to engage and cultivate foundation and corporation prospects, contacts, and funder representatives.

Special Events (10%):

  • Partner with Development Team to host our annual New Futures, Bright Futures Benefit fundraising gala and/or our Power On Campaign in lieu of in-person events during COVID-19.
  • Support our team on event strategy and donor relations for 3-4 additional signature events

Other Duties, As Assigned

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Two or more years’ experience in nonprofit communications, marketing, and/or grantwriting

  • Ability to identify and solve problems with a “whatever it takes” attitude
  • Eagerness to learn and improve, as well as enthusiasm for spearheading new projects
