About Our Health Promotions Program:
HPP is a promotora (community health worker) focused program that trains promotoras de salud to conduct outreach and provide critical health information and education to Latino immigrant community members. The program develops the leadership, skills and capacity of a core group of promotoras using a popular education framework. The areas of health that the program addresses include, chronic diseases such as diabetes and obesity prevention, oral health, as well as some non-health issue areas such as immigrant parent voting.
About Kali K’íin (Home of the Sun)
Kali K’íin (Home of the Sun) is a collaborative working space shared by CARECEN SF and Instituto Familiar de la Raza. The following programs are housed at Kali K’íin: CARECEN SF’s Family Wellness Program, Health Promotions Program and Marketing & Communications Department. Instituto Familiar de la Raza houses its Indígena Health and Wellness Program. Both organizations work in alignment to serve immigrant, indigenous and under resourced families in San Francisco through a range of social services including comprehensive case management, mental health, and youth support. Services provided also include health education, leadership development, and parent-child engagement.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic all CARECEN staff continue to work remotely. Use of office space is based on essential tasks in accordance with our organization’s Covid-19 protocols.
Job Description
This position will support CARECEN’s Health Promotion Program (HPP) by providing both coordination and training support for HPP promotora activities. The HPP coordinator will work under the direct supervision of the HPP director and in conjunction with the HPP manager. Previously, the position would provide coordination and direct support for the implementation of HPP health and wellness promotora workshops focused on diabetes and obesity prevention, and oral health. As a result of Covid-19, this area of work has been adapted to support Covid-19 impacts on the Latinx communities we serve.
The HPP coordinator will now focus on developing and implementing trainings for our team of promotoras to support direct client engagement through enhanced service connection and wellness checks for program participants. Trainings will build promotoras’ capacity to identify urgent and emerging needs of participants and provide supportive one-on-one engagement. The HP coordinator and manager will follow-up with the identified needs via referrals to appropriate support services. In addition, the HPP coordinator will provide logistical and administrative tasks related to all HPP activities, including creation of presentations, data systems, follow-up calls, mailings etc.
Essential Duties:
• Develop weekly trainings for promotoras, including engagement trainings such as motivational
interviewing, non-defensive communication, boundaries and selfcare, how to use virtual platforms,
technology trainings, etc.
• Provide enhanced information and referrals/family advocacy for HP program participants
• Support HPP Manager with planning and coordinating HPP program activities, including enhanced
service connection and wellness engagement and trainings
• Conduct health education workshops for Spanish speaking population via zoom
• Create & develop new templates & tracking systems using excel, google docs, etc.
• Other duties as assigned by HPP director or manager
Qualifications
• B.A. degree (M.S. or M.A. preferred) in public health, health science or social work, and/or equivalent
work experience with experience in program coordination and community outreach and education
• Experience with case management and/or social work with Latinx or immigrant community
• Knowledge of and familiarity with resources and social services support in San Francisco
• Ability to translate theoretical and/or complex concepts into easily understood presentations
• Ability to work both independently and in a team with minimal supervision
• Passionate about Latino health and wellness issues
• Must be bicultural and bilingual in English and Spanish
• Understanding of Latinx community needs
• Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrates the ability to multitask, be reliable and detail oriented
• Efficiency in writing and verbal communication skills
• Able to meet deadlines and work efficiently
• Experience working with MS Office, Excel, Google Calendars, Docs & Hangouts, Zoom, and other
virtual platforms and programs
• Ability to maintain office operations, including maintaining systems and confidential data
